Congrats Randy, job well done! That bird looks great in the air. I can't wait to see it in person! Happy to hear you had a blast today flying, wish we were there :)
Nice job on the build and maiden, it sounds like it could not have gone better.

thanks mike...its a city park that's about 5 miles from my house. my sister lives about a 1/4 mile away from ther... also so when I'm done flying sometimes i stop by ,and sometimes she brings me food, heck you know how fat i am...i quit callin her and stopping by as she is always feedin me, lols. anyhow i am looking forward to the Michigan winter...i have flown more this summer that i ever have. if i had to keep a flight log, it would be impossible...hundreds of hours, actually I'm getting burned out and am looking towards the winter break. by the time i get done messin with some building, the toledo show rolls in town, and its time to start it all over again. my friends go th the domes to fly, but i cant stand to see high alpha left turns over and over again and crashing into each other...lets just say its not my idea of fun :D peace, randy.

    Randy, ( I keep trying :) )
I know you do not like indoor flying, but I have to keep trying :D and I think you may change your thinking of only high alpha flying after seeing this video.
These indoor pattern flyer's do more indoors then I have ever seen outdoors :)
These planes are so cool and I would love to learn this. I have a plane I am working on in the background that I hope will be able to do this type of flying.

    I understand - just thought I would try :)
It would be great to have the whole dome to yourself!
That video was great! and your friend flying skills are incredible to say the least!
Thanks for sharing that video Randy

mark, now that the wing is a proven design..."strong enough for inward and outer full throttle loops" i am going to start messin with the hotwire wing version. after i get done i will fire one to you for Trish for the spring. after flying it, it made me wish i had one 25 years ago...i know it would of been a breeze to fly this model. randy.

after dustin my hotwire off, i burnt a spare wing out...more curiosity than anything in regards to the weight difference,to the phlat printed ribbed wing. it came in at 2.3oz. complete..the foam cut one weighs 2.6oz. uncovered. the covering adds around .4oz. so with a completed wing it will be around 3.0oz. for a .7oz. weight gain that aint to bad for the ease of construction. also i added a rubberband to help with the gear. it acts like a little shock...also the lil pieces of wood keep the wire from diggin in the foam. randy.

Now the real question is performance difference.
My hotwaire wings have ALWAYS out performed my built up and formed wings.

Erik, we will find out in a few days, when i can get out and re maiden...i am going to reprogram the wing to cut out .500 wide by .020 deep spar slots on each side so it isn't stickin up.

OK fellas, Trish...the trainer flew so well i have decided to scale the model up...i have a telemaster camera plane, but its rather large. i used to have a mountain models magpie-ap, but i gave it to a friend so he can learn how to fly...i did a search on google for high-lift cargo airfoils, and i came up with my pick. i scaled the trainer up to the magpie size...it will be a 55in. wing span. the reason for the build is to fly a camera. the magpie flew a 15oz. payload real nice, and the high-lift wing should be a lil better. the root is 10.500in. and the thickness is 2in. there is two places cut out for carbon fiber ribbon sparing. thinking of doing a polyhedral type wing. i donno yet..randy.
    scaled up 9mm depron fuse..

got the motor mounted, its a old 200watt hi-max i had laying around..also i found a castle 45 and a castle bec soldered up. i know its way over kill on a 20amp motor, buts all i can install as of now.. with the motor, speedy, bec, and fuse with prop, it sits at 8.6oz. next on the build, i will install the back tail section, then its on to burnin the wing..tomorrow, i plan on flying the lil one with its new wing. randy.

i wanted to report the hotwire cut wing flew well yesterday....i think i will retire the phlatprinter cut, ribbed, film covered one to mark and Trish for a sample demo show piece for them. wile the wing is lighter, i think it will serve them better than me... just for a trainer the hotwire cut wing is suitable ....the phlatprinter wing was actually built for prototype, and show display, and it is proven in full throttle, inside and outside loops. i think it will serve them better than myself...here is a photo of our flyin fleet yesterday..randy.

tiger, very funny man....its a before photo...and wile i was there there was no incidents...after i left, i have no idea...we are flyin tomorrow, and im sure i will get a report, lols...i do have to admit that corsair from parkzone flyes easier than a trainer model...if ya ever want a handfull fly my 150mph pyranha, that model tests my flying skills....peace, randy.

Since you are going for a heavy lifter, I would leave the span the way it is, 62". It will not hurt and you are not out for aerobatics anyway.

How about giving the tip of the tips a smaller cord? form the 10.5" to maybe 7". It will make them thinner and it will look cool too.

So, you gonna mount the camera for the maiden? :p I could give an anecdotal view of a similar foil and project, but that takes the fun out the project :D
