Randy that strapping idea is really nice!, I am thinking that you would want it on the bottom though? to keep the wing from flexing upward?
    Just thinking

yes mark, the spar banding goes top and bottom...when i made the foil i programmed two 1/2 x .020 slots for the banding. the banding is not my idea mark, its a old proven foam building technique..if you look closely at the other wing, you can see them top and bottom. all i have to do is install a balsa center section for the rubber bands not to dig, and it will be ready for flight. i prove the wing out before i film over, if i do it at all. randy,

I wonder where else we could find this strapping material?

Tim, from what i know, its just available for industrial usage...for sure you can get it from msc, or harbor freight, mcmaster, etc. you would also maybe buy a quanity, im not sure..the banding even takes special crimp tool...if ya went to a food place, they would prolly give ya a bunch, as after they cut from pallets, they just toss it out. randy.

Is it this plastic strapping that they use to tie stuff to pallets and so forth? Some times it is some kind of a hard or spring-like steel and some times it is like a ribbed plastic. Is it the plastic one?

got the new clark-y foil wing ready to fly....i can always go back and mess with the high-lift one, with the cnc stuff, i can just whip out a new fuse, of just make a adaptor to glue on the the high-lift wing. I'm sure this will fly like the small one i built..and i wont look back, lols. i just hope it can still fly my 12oz. camera. next nice day will be the re test, and hopefully my buds can get some video. randy.

well with the snow flying here this morning...no accumulation...i snuck out this afternoon to maiden the model with its new wing....it was no big event, but i was very curious how it performed..it flew exactly like the small version, and this will be my new camera plane. still got a little cg tweaking to do, but overall, outside the crummy landing, as i stalled it in... the model flies great. i plan on filming the wing now using coverrite microlite, and throwing on some airbrush color, for visibility...here is the extremely boring maiden video if anyone wants to see. randy.

Nothing boring about that, Randy! It is a good flying plane and I am looking forward to seeing some pictures/video from the camera when you get it mounted up!

thanks Tim...as you could not see the model well, i tested the wing with some fast outside loops, and inverted flight with no problems...after i landed, i figures i should of done inside loops to test...i suppose the real test will be the camera load...and i will not do loops with that thing onboard, lols. randy.

Looks like a solid, predictable setup. Worthy of AP equipment from the look of it.

Nothing boring about a successful first flight! It looks like an easy flier. Great job. I hope I have as much success with my new saucer.

That take off looked great! That's where you really can tell how your wing setup did. An uneven wing will really show it's problems at the edges of the flight envelope, and that looked perfectly efficient! Not a bad landing either. Maybe add a pinch of down thrust, and a tad more weight up front.

yea Erik, it seemed as it was a little bit tail heavy....but all in all, i was very happy the way the model flew...i will definitely find the sweet cg spot, and do a test payload before i stick my camera on it, lols. and yes the maiden launch, flew up very nicely at half throttle, actually all i had to trim was the elevator. tomorrows weather is predicting 25mph winds..prolly wont get back up til next week. i do have to install the camera mount yet. its made already, i just have to attach. randy.

finished the wing today....took a penny to balance..and with the micro-lite the wing picked up .9oz. the total weight of the wing is at 8.1oz. the film really made it strong feeling, well worth the extra ounce, in my opinion...all that has to be done now is install the camera mount, and fly a payload...i have a 260watt i might use instead of the 200watt one used in maiden. just so everyone knows and i have said it before...i suck at covering, but the function its sound, lols. the wing was done with one piece, including the tips, hence the wads, lols. to me its just a hunk of foam to haul a camera...although i wish it came out better thou. randy.

Hey Randy, the wing looks great! Covering is an art and you are getting better at it everytime you try it. I agree it does give the foam strength and protection from the elements. I like the dark green stripe. I really prefer a covered plane, so, I'm getting lots of practice at covering. Keep up the great progress!

KX-5, thanks man...the best covering i have done so far is mark and Trish's demo wing...im going out in the morning to test new set-up..today i found a bigger motor....it added 1.5oz. of weight, but has 200 more watts....i figured it a good trade ...it will very helpful when i fly the camera. i went to install the mount today, and got side tracked with the bigger motor, lols. so tomorrows flight will be 2.4oz. heavier with a 200 extra watts. randy,
