This file is worked up to use 1/4" FFF. Note that TWO PhlatCodes have been included - One is for 1 plane utilizing 1/2 sheet of foam, the other has TWO planes to utilize the whole sheet of foam (one to keep and one to share!).

First off, lemme say something about this plane:

It would seem that the source file I grabbed off the net to make the plans in post #1 was askew. By that, I mean that it has a 22" wingspan, but the chord is not right - it's too small. The plane flies wonderfully, but after flying my new EPP version with the larger chord and slightly greater length, it's so much better.

I'll be creating a new file soon for a more accurate version of this plane...

    Now, onto the setup:

    From LazerToyz.com

    17 gram outrunner
    2mm prop saver
    7x3.5 GWS prop
    6 amp Feigao ESC
    3 TowerPro SG50 5 gram servos

    Additionally, I am using:

    FlightPower 3s350 LiPo
    AR6100 Rx

That power system is rated to as much as 12 oz thrust at as much as 6 amps, and my EPP version weighed only 5.45 oz - easily a 2:1 thrust to weight ratio! If memory serves, the FFF version represented here was only coming in at about 6.1 oz, so it's still the perfect power system.

    Mike,

On this size do you still use the carbon spars in the wing and fuse? Just wondering since I didn't see any cut lines for any spars.

    Thanks

Hi, Ray! I usually don't put cutouts on my files for spars, as that's kind of up to the builder and their personal preference. On this plane you certainly should put in some carbon fiber, but how much and where depends on what you are making it from. When I made mine from 6mm EPP, I ended up putting one flat in the wing and two flats in the fuse (one high and one low) by simply slitting into the foam and inserting the flat with some CA on it.

Again, it's just whatever you think you need for optimal strength. If you are building from FFF you should, at minimum, brace the wing. If the build is very light you prolly can get by without putting CF on the fuse.

    Hope this helps!

    Hi Mike,

Thanks for the info. I did end up putting a spar in both the fuse and the wing. Seemed to flexy without them.

I fly mine 40 - 45% back from the leading edge.

Thanks for the CG info. Do you have a picture of how you mounted the motor? Thanks

I am so sorry - I never saw this post come up, so that's why I am just now responding to it.

I have used two different ways for mounting my Blue Wonder motors on these types of planes (I almost NEVER use the firewall mount method).

On my Micro 22, I am using one of the aluminum tube mounts. A good friend sent me this one, but they can be purchased from BP Hobbies --> http://www.bphobbies.com/view.asp?id=V6 ... id=V847725

Another way I like to mount these motors is with the simple little 3/8" square stick. Just pick one up at your LHS and cut about a 2" length so that you can use THIS type of mount--> http://www.bphobbies.com/view.asp?id=V6 ... id=W558406

In each case, I just hot-glue the mount in place. Since the Micro 22 is built from the thinner 6mm EPP foam, I elected to add a little tape on each side to help hold the mount in place. I am including pics of both styles. The pic of the stick method is from my SuperSlo 28.

Again, sorry it took me so long to respond! Attached files [IMG] [IMG]
