Burt Rutan is the man in my book! The Long-EZ that I designed for RcPowers.com ( http://www.rcpowers.com/LongEZ/LongEZAbout.htm ) was my favorite sport plane. I have since taken it apart to use the gear in other experiments. I wanted another Rutan bird, one that very few have in RC form. I came across the ARES! You can read about it here http://www.scaled.com/projects/ares.html. What makes this project so cool are the canards and the off set turbofan with curved ducting. Here is a pic of my BoxScale version for 55mm fan. The fan is coming out of my F-16 that does 102mph in level flight so the fan set will no doubt have enough power. What do you guys think about the curving duct? The ducting has 3.818” of strait tube after the slight curve. I am wondering if that is long enough to keep any weird vectoring of thrust from showing up.

Well let me know what you guys think, good or bad. It will be awhile before I can build this beast due to the holidays and my college work. Attached files [IMG]

I am going to be giving the code away for free. I am working on an F-18 right now for RcPowers.com that will be for sale around January. The plans.zip is going to include pdfs and the G-code for the Phlaty guys! I am on version 2.5 for the F-18 and it is darn near done. Ok back to the ARES, I just had a major brain jolt as how to handle the intake... Put the EDF near the back and curve the intake infront of the fan. It will not look as cool with out the fan blade showing right at the intake but it will be easy to build. I can't wait until I have more time to build this beast.
