Trying to set up a fuse that tapers in the back, I am trying to make one of those profile warbirds but want it to be thicker so I am using two 3/4 fuse halves to make it not so profile(ish).
I am posting the way I came up with it, take a look and any suggestions would be welcomed.
This way seems to work ok and once it is cut a quick stroke with a sanding block cleans it up pretty well.
    I just think a 11/2 inch rudder would just look funny :p Attached files P-40 Fuse.skp (599.5 KB)Â

    Jeff,
I have not seen this done this way before, but I say go for it. If it doesn't work out, you at least learned from it and I bet figure out another way. Then again it may just work perfect and than you could perfect it to the way you like. I hope that you will post pics of how this turns out, I wonder how it will work too

That should work good. I agree an 1 1/2" thick rudder wouldn't look right.
I wonder about the rudder at 3/4" being too thick also. I would consider making those fold depths come down even deeper to put a 1/4" or 1/2" rudder on there. I also wonder about doing the same taper method around the edges to give a semi-rounded look.

I once tried to do a wings airfoil like this but it didn't do so well, but on a side note I was trying to do it with balsa and that was before I got rid of my skewing issue.

Looking forward to seeing how it turns out.

Well, first attempt wasn't too bad, seems my travel from 1 part to the next cut into one fuse half for some reason.
I do need to take the tail a bit deeper for more taper but it looks promising.
Note, I just slapped this together so I didn't worry about the fuse being straight.
Oh, I am going to go T-tabs on thicker stuff as my tabs were almost 1/2 inch wide  Attached files [IMG] [IMG]

Jeff, that turned out really good! I had no idea it would look this nice. Seems like you discovered an new way to make a full fuselage.. Nice job
    Thank you for sharing this.

2nd updated attempt, I think I am where I want to be, now just to cut the wing, stab and rudder and figure out where the battery will end up to pocket out a battery spot

    That looks great.
It looks like it would make a great combat plane.

You could also do a tapered symmetrical airfoil this way too. Half of the wing thickness at a time. I think that would really add some dimension to how it would fly in the wind.

That would be cool, I have yet to see some one do just the leading edge. I remember one guy did the whole wing this way. Rounding the leading edge on the MKII would be pretty quick.
