    Mark.

I think with a little more experimenting. India Ink on foam will work nice.
It dries fast. It does not rub off.

Here is the picture posted on Phlat-Lab tonight.
I will post more pictures later.

I think you are right about that TH. The rit dye we used on the show just would not penetrate the foam no mater how we tried it. Just from your quick test looks like you have it. This will be interesting to see if you can evenly coat a piece. Maybe a roller would work to do the job? Thank you for testing this out and posting tonight that was really cool :)
Looking forward to seeing the results that you come up with.

    Mark and Trish,

I will mail you this piece of depron.

I used masking tape and a cotton swab for the stripes.
If you sand depron with 600 grit emery before staining, it adds more surface area.
This causes the ink to pack in to the sanding lines making the color a little deeper.
I use India ink in my airbrush without any problems. Nice even finish.

Here is the brand of ink I use.

    Another thought,

You could try some of the colored wood stains.
You can get those at Home Depot, or Lowes.
I'm not sure if they are oil based, but it might be a neat experiment.
I think the oil based colored stains may be the way to go.
Sometimes the stores sell small sample cans for cheap.

Other types of printing ink might work.
Thin the ink with the appropriate thinner.

    Hope this helps.
    George :D

George, this looks great! I think you may be right about the oil based stains to, we will have to give that a try. Is India ink oil based?
Thank you for send us that sample this may be a really neat way to have colored depron foam! :)
