First time poster DXF import in Sketchup 7.1

    First time poster but I did search for in the forums and didn't have much luck. I did find this link in the Sketch Up help section. Most of my files are in ACad format and DXF so I was happy to find this link. It saying that this will only be available short file and that it will not be supported in the next version, what a shame. But, if your like me and rely on ACAD and DXF this is almost a must have.

    I know what you mean I have been so used to auto cad and 3d studio that it made it a little tough to transition. Here is a helpful tool. Its a plugin for Sketchup that allows you to export from Sketchup as a dxf or stl. You can find it here about 7 down viewtopic.php?f=103&t=95&start=0

    Also if you just stick with version 7 or earlier you can still import dxf files in those versions.
    I am sure that someone will write a dxf importing plugin if they that that away in the future. But 7 works fine for me and I really don't see a reason to upgrade.

    Thanks for the clue I saw that one and snagged it then found the other.

    BTW, I noticed that you were having issues with your phone and internet the other night.

    When that happens again, remove the coax cable from the back of the modem, it's the only one that screws on. There will be a little copper wire in the center. Touch it with your finger to ground it, won't shock you. It will take the modem about a minute and a half to re-boot and suck down a new provisioning file. When the lite for tel 1 is solid, check for dial tone. If you have tone you will have internet and good to go.

    With that done, a little prevention int he future is necessary. I'm going to assume you have a package with phone, Cable, and Internet. The phone/internet split from the Cable with a splitter. You need to insure the splitter is "Grounded" in some way. Just a length of wire to ground will do the trick. Hopefully it is and you won't need to worry about that again.

    Not sure why some of these installers don't ground the splitter but it can cause line levels to go out of this world and give you intermittent service resulting in a trouble call costing you bucks.

    If that doesn't resolve the issue, then it is out of your realm and need to be addressed outside your house/ property down the street at the node.

    That's a great tip and sure enough it was a 3way splitter that I took off that night and it fixed the problem so you are right on with that one. Also it was not grounded just like you said :)

    When I had cable, those 3 way splitters got me into trouble too. When comcast came out to fix my problem they saw I put a 3 way on myself and said it wasn't the right type. They put one of theirs on and the problem went away, go figure.

    He did the same thing with ours got rid of them and put new ones on. On thing he did was to put an 12v powered 3way splitter that is a type of signal amplifier. Because I was asking for more speed! :D He told me that I did not need it but we could try it out. It worked fine for a few days and then all the trouble started out of the blue. I got rid of that one went direct and now everything is back to normal

    It's unfortunate, I have version 7.1.6860 and it doesn't import .DXF files. What are they thinking???

    For those of us who will be new to the Phlatprinter with MK3, is there a way to import Dxf files into the current available versions of Sketchup without spending $500 on the pro version? I can't find the 7.0 version available for download anywhere.

    In a Google search for GoogleSketchup7WEN (the name of the file you want) I found a copy at ftp://telematics.ee.itb.ac.id/incoming/ ... Up7WEN.exe , among other listings.
    CAREFUL, I CAN not & WILL not vouch for the accuracy or that the file is virus-free, NOR for the "family friendliness" of the website, so proceed with caution. :geek:

    Thanks for the download tip. Now I just need to figure out the best workflow. Mostly I'm trying to import 2D drawings and then go 3D with them.

    SlowBipe, I just a copy of SU 6 to do any DXF importing. Now with the USB CNC software that comes with the board you could import the DXF directly in the the USB to CNC software and cut :) It generates the code automatically!
