I just want to say Hi and introduce myself.
My name is Chris. Clinker is my screen name because I like boats.
    I also fly RC gliders.
I have a CNC machine that I designed and built with the inspiration of John Kleinbauer.
I've just gotten Google SketchUp and am wanting to try making some gcode.
Otherwise, I have been drawing with ACad for a while.
I learned drafting 'old school', you know with pencil, paper, T square and triangle. So, sometimes I think that it's just as easy to whip out the drafting tools and do it by hand. Or just cutting and building planes manually from scratch. Because, there is alot of time spent tweaking and getting things to work right in CNC. Once you got the design and code down though, CNC is way quicker, way more accurate and consistent.
So I am looking forward to having some fun. I will check back.

Welcome to the Phlatforum Chris! :D
Once you go through the Sketchup tutorials I think you will find your self putting the pencil and paper away. I know I did. It just so nice to be able to sketch out and idea in 3D very quickly and then turn it into a real world model in no time.
Have fun and if you have any questions, we are here to help :)

Welcome to the Phlatforum Clinker. Glad to have yo join us. If you know Acad you'll master SU in no time. For what we do here, SU along with the Phlatscript plug-in is the only way to go when designing foamies and generating g-code.

Look around and if you have any questions don't hesitate to ask. There's a lot of nice, helpful folks here and most of them are pretty intelligent  , so make yourself at home and have fun.

    Thank you.
I already agree that Sketchup is really easy to use.
I had to make a drawing for a little job I am going to do. A fence around some garbage containers. (lowly, but it brings in the $$)
I'm looking forward to playing with it.
