I purchased the plans for the big BF 109 from foamcasualty and thought it was too big for my very first full fuse build. I've only done profile planes until now. So I decided I scale it to 60% of original size. I have no room for the full size 109. Also I'm unemployed so I have to budget everything. I had the foam. I converted my ryobi scroll saw into a hot wire cutter and works flawlessly. It's powered by an old school n scale train transformer so I can adjust current/heat. Also I didn't want to waste money on kinkos to print out plans. So what I did is trace all parts off my screen after properly zooming them and measuring with ruler. I laid the screen down flat and traced parts. Since this plane is 60% of original, I traced all parts in 4 legal size paper sheets. Took me about 2 hours. Let me know what you think. The white foam is the kind you get at dollar tree, it's easier to fold on the smaller tight sections than the blue fanfold.

Thanks Kram..I'm very new at this. My question is, would it fly allright after scaling?

Man that's a really cool idea for the hot wire in the scroll saw. A few years a go I built a gravity drop bar foam wing cutter (AKA poor man's feather cut) and also built a fixture to make cuts like you did with the scroll saw, but boy is your way easier. I'll have to give that a try.

As far as flying OK scaled down. I am not familiar with that model, but when I take a 3 view, and scale it down to model size, I add about 10-12% to the tail area. So without seeing the model, I can't say for sure, but if you take the scaled down size and add 10% to the tail area it should be fine.

The scroll saw hot wire cutter came almost by coincidence. I had the transformer laying next to scroll saw and a piece of steel leader wire next to that....in less than 10 minutes I had it all running. I recommend to anyone that already has a scrolll saw to do it. Now you got 2 machines in one. Switch blade fo wire, it's that easy. Everything's there calling at you to convert it. Also use the blade tensioner to keep wire taut...

Look under the scratchbuilt section for SOLIDWORKS VS sketchup drawings...and ull b amazed.
