I just found out what "There is always something extra in the box" from RCFoam means. I measured and the foam I ordered was larger than expected.

You must have AT LEAST a 22X32 in sheet.

This is the model and G Code for the Firefly designed by Leadfeather. This is my 1st G - Code model, so you might want to look over the code before printing.......

    Specs:
    Motor: 1500KV Blue Wonder
    Servos: 5 - 9 Gram servos x3
    ESC: 9 - 18 amp

    FPV from the Firefly

SWEET! It looks super maneuverable. Mike (Crash) built us one of these last year before the weak signals show and we had a blast flying it at the indoor there.
    Great job!

How does the Phlat printer /// like cutting EPP. Any tips or tricks. What bit did you use and how was the finish? Was there any skewing on the straight lines?

*UPDATE* Incorrect file was uploaded. The new file has the correct Phlatbit paths.

I worked up a modified Firefly last night and cut it. Hoping to knock it out before an upcoming indoor.

Changes include blunting the nose, slotting the stab, servo slots, and my custom depron control ramp slots. Butterfly style prop slot (experimental noise reduction). Also there is a milled pocket that fits the blue wonder tube mount.

Thanks for the start on this, RCFlyboyNJ!

Some notes, this was the first time I've cut EPP on the P. I did not need to make rails or thickeners to get it to track straight on the new machine. The cut is incredibly clean, but I kept it at 25ipm using the stock router. I compared the outer edge of the cut to the incredibly clean 3D Hobby Shop EPP Extra I bought and the cut is very comparable. Can't replicate their inside cuts (something like .00001 kerf!) but the edges on my P cut were very nice. Attached files [IMG] firefly_06.skp (882 KB)Â

Nice work Chris! I like your mods. It'll be interesting to see how much the prop noise is reduced with that prop slot shape. We experimented with different shaped slots and found that the biggest improvement was made by bevelling the edges of the slots. A slot with a saw-tooth type edge also works quite well.

Thanks for your feedback on cutting EPP with the too. One of my concerns with the new machine was that the EPP may compress too much and elongate the X-axis cuts due to the force of the pressure rollers. Did you use #1.3 or #1.9?

Si, thanks. I used 1.3# as it was all I had in the stack-o-foam. Interesting is, it tracked better in the than it did on my MK2. No spoiler board or stiffening needed. Like others, I have some issues with the X rollers cutting circles, so I am avoiding that type of work until I can get the fixed rollers. The near-micro milled stuff I am doing will probably have to wait until I get the upgraded rollers. I'll gladly pay for them when they are available. However, it did not have a noticeable effect on the quality of the EPP cut.

If I were cutting 6mm or 3mm EPP, I am pretty certain I'd need to reinforce/stiffen the foam on the bed as it would likely bow or squish too much-same as the MK2.

I'm reading through the rcgroups firefly thread and saw the posts regarding the slot shape. I think you are right that I shouldn't expect much with the shape on the noise. But, it will give the propsaver some room to do its job.

Just looking for a quick build indoor beater! My paint job will be pretty hack.
