I started this thread almost a couple of years ago to come up with a formula for making fairly well matched machines in various popular flavors. The plans are here as well as a gallery from various builders of what these models look like. I am posting pictures of a few of the ones that I have built. 22 different designs http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1012551 that all fit into a single sheet of FFF. I expand my cut area to 22 x 47 in some cases by taping a tail onto my sheets to utilize the entire sheet. Most are set to 22 x 44, which I can cut without adding a tail.

Most of the designs utulize the popular Blue Wonder style motors (1700 Kv), two 9g servos, and an 800-1000 mAh 2s battery. Either the GWS 7x6 SF or APC 7x6 prop gave these 7-8 oz birds the proper motivation to carry a 20' x 1" wide streamer for 6-7 minutes.

The designs are classed into two groups; PLF (Perpendicularly Laminated Fuselage) and VLF (Vertically Laminated Fuselage). Both classes utilize a KFm2 wing with the plane scaled to yield 150 sq. in. of wing area. The Sea Fury is the only exception at 152 sq. in. That was due to being the second design in this run of models, and before the design criteria settled down.

A few of the designs are better suited for a little larger motor. They are of the VLF style and are the short nosed, long tail moment models. They are the Spitfire, BF-109, FW-190, A6M Zero, and F6F Hellcat. The Suppo 2208-12, TowerPro 2408-21, and the RCTimer 2208-12 are excellent choices for these planes, as they will give alot better weight distribution, without additional ballast. You can still use a 10A esc as long as you don't use a bigger prop. These motors also produce a bit more power, but not too much. as to give an unfair advantage.

    Flying characteristics;
    VLF style
These models not only look great in the air, they fly like a larger plane. At 8 oz they do not have quite enough power for unlimited vertical performance. However, what they lack in vertical, they make up for in speed. With all the gear tucked neatly inside, they are very clean, and it is noticable. They like to be flown on the wing, not any slower than half throttle. They take a Zoom & Boom tactic. Fly into the target and away from the target. One of the most exciting kills I've gotten was with my P-51B. I spotted the oppenent flying towards the opposite end of the feild that I was flying to, I was above, just rolled in on his six and took the whole ribbon. By the time he realized what was happening there was not time to react.

    PLF Style
These planes are a full ounce lighter than the VLFs, making them the kings of vertical. Any of them fly very well. These planes have it in the agility catagory. It is very easy to attain the proper CG due to the battery being located to accommodate your build. This style also is less intense to build, making the emotion factor less of one.

The FW-190, F6F Hellcat, and Sea Fury have a narrow horizontal fuselage profile in front of the horizontal stabilizer, making them a bit fragile and will benefit from some reinforcement in that area.

Here are the SketchUp files sorted by style.

Here is the SU files for the VLF designs. All my SU files are version 7.

I will let you generate your own Phlatcode since there may be some differences in setups. I used a 1/16" diameter cutter.

Please use these in a professional manner. I do sell kits, and that helps keep me in foam and bits to continue this hobby.

    Ken :)

Would it be possible to post all the plans and cnc files as a ZIP file.
It would be easier to download. :ugeek:

We're going to use these planes in my club and I'm printing them as fast as my MKI Phlatty can take it. Made a short video while waiting for the phlatprinter to do it's work.

Jan, nice editing. I like the cam on the foam too.

    Ken,
Man these are great! It's so funny because today a few club members were talking about wanting to get into electric foam combat. They were asking if I could design something easy but durable and I almost forgot that these were here. In my mind I was thinking of a layered fuse like these and now realize that's what you got here lol.

I think the guys would like something like this so I'm gonna see if they want to go this route.
    Thanks for sharing!

I just want to say thanks again to Ken for sharing these plans. Your ROCK!!! :banger:
I have cut about 40 of these planes for members of my club and neighboring clubs here in Sweden. We're going to have a build event at the club on Thursday and maybe we get far enough to have our first combat session during easter holidays.

I have nearly completed the De Havilland Mosquito. Used blue foam for my test fit and it goes together real nice. There is a small canopy on the SketchUp file and I am not sure exactly what to do with that. If anyone knows how to manage the canopy please let me know. I am going to try to use two small outrunners with counter-rotating three blade props. This is a nice solid looking little airplane and the cut files were nicely done. Thanks.

Nice photos. Looks like a pretty place to live. I don't know when you took the photos, but you are all in short sleeves so it must be nicer there than in south central Indiana.
I am almost finished with the Mosquito. It cut real nice and goes together great and looks like it will be a good flyer. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks! The clubhouse and field is actually an old farm so that's the reason of the idyllic surroundings. We are in the south west of Sweden. Spring is just starting up and it was one of the first days of warm weather and I guess people are fast to ditch the long sleeves now. But temperature drops fast when the sun goes down...
