I'm brand new to this, but I've searched through most of the threads and haven't seen my problem yet, which is that my Z-axis is running backwards when I run the programs (it seems right according to the keypad---upper key makes it go up, lower key down when jogging). Before I try to get my over-size hands into the cabinet to move wires, is there a software solution that will reverse the motors? I have all three motors hooked up the same, and Y and X seem fine, although, to be honest I don't know that these would make such a great difference. Z matters because when the spindle should plunge it retracts, and vice versa.

If moving wires is the only solution, do I reverse the pairs, or reverse all wires? In other words, if I have black/green/blue/red now, do I go blue/red/black/green, or red/blue/green/black? (forgive me, I'm a Mechanical Engineer, not Electrical)

Hello, you can usually go into your CNC controller settings and reverse the axis, I use Mach 3 and here is a pic of my settings! I am running the MK II with the under mount gantry. Hope this helps!

    Hi isrdriver,
Did this solve the reverse issue you were having?
You do want to switch them in pairs, from left to right. (coil 1 red, blue) (coil2 green, black)
If you want the motor to run in reverse you can swap out the coil one coil two positions.
If you want to reverse the direction in the software you can do that from the settings menu check box.
The main thing to remember is to turn the power off before moving any motor wires or it will mess up your driver card.
Also make sure you load some code to see what direction down/up is for the cutting. This is the way you can tell if you have your motor moving in the right direction.
    Hope this helps

Thanks for the help. I did manage to reverse the Z-axis through the settings. I think I failed to hit "okay" the first time I tried it, so it didn't actually take. Still can't get the program to execute with the spindle running, however. I did try the surge suppressor suggested elsewhere, but no luck.

hmmm This is a strange problem, I have not heard of the program not running when the spindle is on? Have you tried to plug the spindle into a a different outlet maybe its pulling amps from the stepper card?
