I'm having a bit of trouble finding a good place for my MKIII. I'd like it to be right next to my workbench so I don't have to set up another computer in the basement to run it. This pretty much leaves my workbench as a stand for my MKIII. It would need to be right smack in the middle of my bench because I don't trust the two leaflets on either end of my workbench to support ~ 60 lbs of machine. I was looking at the MKII stand which only requires 5 2x4's, some wood screws, and a couple L-brackets. Has anybody made a MKIII stand yet? I'd like to make one on casters so that I could move it around easily if need be, and make it just the right size (no extra inches on the the top) to fit the MKIII so that it takes up the least space possible.

For now I'm just going to get the thing up and running and have some fun with it, but I foresee myself wanting a proper stand.

    What are your guyz' thoughts?

I modified the Phlat Stand I made for my MKI. I rotated the PhlatPrinter 90 degrees from the PPMKI to the PP3. As a result I put the modified stand on casters so I can rotate it 90 degrees from it's storage position to where it will be used or else I can't walk past my work bench if I store it in the same position as when it's used. Here's a quick pic I took with my cell phone of it rotated 45 degrees as I'm still working on it. I'll post some better pics once I get it working.

Dimensions of the base are 41.5"x15.75"x17" (l-w-h) Attached files [IMG]

My Dad has been working hard cleaning out our garage/basement (I help a little here and there...sometimes :D) so I've been looking for a good permanent spot for my MKIII. For now I'm just trying to get the machine to work on my workbench, but it's not a good home for it. If my workbench were perfectly flat I could keep it there, but it's not. I have to keep the machine in a certain position where the table is flat, so as to not induce any warps, which is basically smack in the middle of my workbench. Eventually I think I'll make a stand for my MKIII with casters, so that it can be moved out of "storage" position to cutting position, while keeping it right next to my workbench.

I'll have to get a picture of it, but I made the stand out of 2x4's that you were talking about, I changed some of the lengths to make it wider so I have a place to put a second computer with it. The front to back depth is the same as the MKII I just changed the width. It still used five 8ft 2x4's but I had to add a little 12" piece I had laying around. Of course now that i've seen Flashsolutions(I think) little computer stuck inside the machine I'm gonna look into doing it that way, I wonder how much that cost.

The computer was $209 plus shipping which I got from TigerDirect.com, but it was an open box one of a kind at that price and normally sells for $339.

What I did not count on was the cool mounting bracket that came with it. The pics showed it on a stand which would have worked too, but the mounting bracket was even better. It was designed to bolt on the the back side of a monitor.

My Phlatprinter sits on a workbench I got a couple years ago from Home Depot and modified to add wheels and a drop down leaf which serves as a work surface when not cutting. It is 5' long by 2' wide with a 2' drop leaf. I have a section underneath it to store things and a built in router under the Phlatprinter now that can be accessed by rotating the Phlatprinter out of the way with the leaf extended.

When cutting foam, it takes up pretty much all of my shop. But when I am done, it rolls over to one wall and leaves me with room to move about again.

I was shopping at Costco today and picked up a shelving unit to replace my folding table for a MKIII stand. It went together quickly and is a good size for the MKIII. I was thinking of building one but this seemed a bit easier for my lazy self. It was $60. Just an idea for folks still considering stand options.
