    Hi guys,

I have been enjoying the Lil Ripper alot this spring. But I'm kind of hard on my planes (flying them through the tall grass, trying to drag the tail in the grund when flying and such while having a huge smile on my face  ) and since my second Ripper is starting to look quite worn I was thinking of making some changes on my next Ripper. However, the changes more or less ended up in a complete redesign with the Sbach 300 as inspiration.

The wingspan is about 80cm (31.5 inches). The Sbach planform has less wing area than the Ripper so I plan to build it as light as possible. Power will be delivered by a 2S lipo to a 1700kv BlueWonder with a 8x4 prop. On the current Ripper I use a 1300kv Blue wonder and a 3S lipo, so I think going to 2S will save some weight.

I have built the airframe and in a couple of days I hope to get the electrical stuff in there as well.I have made a couple of corrections to the plans after I build my first one. If you like the plane please try it out and report any improvements regarding the plans! Attached files [IMG] [IMG] [IMG] [IMG] [IMG] [IMG] [IMG] SBach 300 box fuse.skp (2.4 MB)Â

    Awesome Jan!
I started doing an Sbach too. I was doing the 342 though. One day I will get around to finishing it. Right now I've been more into the quad stuff.

    Thanks Shaun,
Looking forward to seeing that 342. I'm also building a quad, but waiting for some parts now so I found some time to build the Ripper replacement. I just hope that this one will fly as good as the Ripper does...

This looks like such an awesome plane! If I wasn't so backlogged with builds right now I'd start cutting one today!

Looks great and I'll keep my eye on this as a future project.

    Thanks for sharing!

    Nice one John!
All we need now is a print head on the Phlatprinter and we would see all kinds of crazy designs

Are you planning to add a nose cowl to this design? I was wondering if there was an off the shelf item available or if one would need to Phlatform a suitable cowl.

Would you please post a photo of your model when finished? I am curious to see how you finish the control linkages.

Very nice model, I'm going to build one of these for sure!

I started mounting the hardware yesterday and found out that I probably need to move the elevator and rudder servos further forward to get proper CG. Another way to do it is to use lighter servos than the 10gram ones that were the only I had on the shelf for this build.

I also made a ballpark test on the power after I mounted the motor. The results are promising with hovering capabilities at just over mid stick

dugd1013: No, I will not add any cowl and it's really not necessary in my opinion. There is definitely not any off the shelf item for that so if you want one you'll probably need to phlatform it yourself. The idea with this plane is that it should be a fast build and hopefully be fun to fly.

almostthere: That plane looks great. Also good to hear that it can take some wind! I'm going to finish my build on friday, and hopefully maiden it as well. There will definitely be a video if I get to fly it.
    What AUW did you get?

I moved some parts around to fit on 13"x39" sheets. I had a couple white and black sheets left over from a sample order. I went with black sides on the fuse and white every where else. Didn't look to bad all snapped together. This was my first Depron cut on my machine, sort of different compared to the EPP that I usually work in. I attached the code I used if anyone cares to use it.

Wow, you guys really work fast! Black sides with the rest white will surely look good. Please post pictures when you have the plane put together!

I maidened my Sbach yesterday. Unfortunately the flight became quite short because of the wind contidions. The plane is already repaired and flew well before it prematurely came back to ground. Winds were gusting between 15-20mph and I couldn't avoid the impact.

Also I was so confident in my flying skills that I didn't tape the maiden flight so I don't have anything to show you guys. As soon as the weather improves I'll go and fly again, but this time I'll start the camera directly!

During the 1minute 40 second flight the plane felt very good and I think it will be a worthy replacement of my Lil Ripper.

I just weighed mine and AUW with a 500mAh 2S is 205gram (and that's after the maiden crash repairs which required considerable amounts of hot melt glue). I think it will balance even with a 360mAh 2S and that brings weight down to 192gram so I guess that in the right conditions (no wind) it will be quite floaty with the small batteries.

Yesterday I really put the Sbach through it's paces when I used up eight batteries on the Sbach alone  The bad thing is that I forgot to bring my camera

It's a really good flyer but I must say that I liked the Ripper more. The Sbach 300 is a very short model (compared both to the Sbach 342 and others) and because of that it has a few quirks. Compared to the Ripper it stalls easier and can't take close flat rudder turns without dropping the inner wing. It's also harder to control high alpha and slow flight. It is not unflyable and I really had a blast flying it, but it requires a bit more attention from the pilot.

With my Ripper I enjoyed flying knife edge alot. The Sbach 300 almost doesn't do KE at all due to much smaller side area.

I'll probably do a re-desing of this plane and end up with a Sbach'ed version of Lil' Ripper.

Nice airplane! Don't know how I missed this one.

I think it would be cool to pinch the fuselage closer together at the top of the canopy.

Would like to try this one.

Jan, would you post the skp file as a version 7?

Here you go Ken, hope you have as much fun flying this one as I did. However, I recommend that you use the 342 side profile to get better stability.

My SBach died last fall so this spring I made a Edge V3 version of this plane to have as my everyday flyer. Don't have the skp files on this computer, but I'll post them some day as well. The Edge is inspired by the HK version: http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/stor ... duct=19963 Attached files SBach 300 box fuse_SKP7.skp (2.4 MB)Â
