    Hi Guys

Mr Mulligan is my last scratchbuilt model B.C. (Before CNC) as I have just completed the build of my Phlatprinter 3! I originally drew up the plan 18 months ago and completed most of the build before getting stuck on how to attach the wings and how to construct the wing struts. Many designs and plan builds later I have finished it off while waiting for my PP3 to arrive in the UK.

Mr Mulligan is around 39" wingspan and approximately scale with the exception of increased fun fly wing chord, enlarged tail areas and slightly slimmed down fuz. Construction is almost entirely 6mm depron with some 3mm depron, lite ply and carbon rods. Finish is white enamel paint and hand cut decals from self adhesive sheets.

Power is Turnigy 2830-1050kV turning 9x6 APC style prop via 20/25A Turnigy ESC and 3S 1300 lipo.
Control is 4x9g Turnigy servos and Spektrum 6110 RX.

The first few flights were in a very strong wind and did little than prove it flew. The next flights were in a calmer wind and showed that some aileron differential is need to cope with the adverse yaw.

Can't wait to start some larger and more advanced projects on the Phlatprinter! Attached files [IMG] [IMG] [IMG]

A couple more photos to show the fake P & W Wasp engine printed on photo paper, the battery compartment with magnetic catches and the wing struts.

Thank-you all for your kind remarks!

I think my first few Phlatprinter projects will have to be simple as there seems many lessons to learn. I have drawn up a simple high winger sports model for my first model to practice on.

The photo shows the ribs and wing spars after the second attempt at cutting. The first time around I had the wing spars at 90degrees to this version and found that despite having plenty of tabs, the x-axis roller break them out of the sheet and the cutting had to stop because the parts were getting cut all wonky.

Turning them along the sheet sorted this problem and the spars and ribs fitted together very nicely and made for a speedy and accurate build.

Phlatprinting is certainly very educational! Attached files [IMG] [IMG]

A few build photos........ I aren't going to miss cutting parts with a knife. The cowling laminations and the wheel pants were cut with a hot wire bandsaw using cardboard templates. The whole construction would of been easier with a phlatprinter using slot and tabs in the fuselage. Plenty of weight saving could be done by cutting huge holes in the 3 layers of depron used on the bottom sheeting. In comparison my first phlatprinter project only took 10 minutes to cut all the wing components... I definitely do not miss taping the plans together, copying the parts onto foam and cutting them out!

A bit of detail of how the struts were made, and the airframe before painting.

That,,, is a really nice example of what a pp can do if one puts some thought into it. Nice work. Wish I was that dedicated sometimes.
