It appears that the Z axis on my controler board has died. With the stepper disconnected from the driver the red power LED lights up then dims down. Also the three pin part with the heatsink next to the fuse gets super hot. The measured voltage at TP1 stays between 150 and 200 mV.

Before I start pulling this all out of my machine and troubleshooting the circuit, I was wondering if anyone had some quick diagnotics of this problem. Do you think its the driver chip, or something else, ect..

If it is the driver chip, does anyone have the Part # ?

You should be able to swap axis easy enough... Issue here is if a bad stepper took out the channel; then you would be down 2 channels.

The same thing happened to me. I replaced the driver chip without any luck. It ended up being a bad board.

It's the driver chip on mine. I put the Y axis driver in the Z spot and everything powered up properly, I'm going to hook it back up to the machine and check to see if the axis moves properly. Now I just have to track down that part so I can get one on order.

If you get new ones.... get the High Temp Ones. Thread here.

That's god news! Grab a new high temp one like ET suggested and you'll be up and running in no time.

I'll keep the Hi temp ones in mind, But I should be able to get two of the normal ones as samples from one of the vendors at work.

When you buy, buy two or three. Just for spare. That's what I did and now I have two spare.

My replacement driver + a spare will be here wednesday, no charge! Gotta love samples...of course we spend $100,000 a year with this vender...

Anyways, While checking everything else, I found my power supply was only putting out 22.5V so I adjusted that up. I also rechecked my current limits and PFD settings.

Well, I got the "samples" of the driver chips in and everything is moving again, and I have a spare chip "just in case" :dance3:
