Thanks, I'm happy with them also. Getting that wall thickness to .8mm was the key. The final weight after 99% of the cleanup is 1.865 oz. or 53 grams. That includes everything needed like motor mount' servo rails, bulk heads, wing mount points, boom mount clamp assembly, and the nylon 6-32 hardware.
Today I'll setup the acetone vapor jig and do that if I have time. I'll get a picture of that too. It's a neat setup.
It's getting close to done. Just glue it together and bolt in the parts after the smoothing. Then cross my fingers that I can adjust the incidence enough to dial it all in spot on. If not I'll just print another. It's only a 12hr print.

Cool. I still have not done any vapor baths. It sure makes those parts look nice though.

Here is probably my most fulfilling project. It was about 7 months ago but I thought I'd share.
It was inspired from the Robohand project but it is all my own design.

Nice job, Shaun. How do the fingers get activated? I see that there are wires for it but what controls it?

When she bends the elbow it pulls on the cables to close the fingers.

Nice work Shaun. Is the unit in use? I got slammed for offering one on Craigslist because I'm not an approved medical service provider. Jerks,,, grrrrrr...

I finally had time to assemble some today before the rain hits. It's not as straight as I'd like. Maybe a degree off at the boom mount. Which will translate into an 1/8'' off square at the tail. I shouldn't worry about it because I've made plenty of bananalages in my day far more off and they trimmed in nicely,,,,, to the left.

Printed some new tail boom clamp parts replacing the rough brown units. Even made the pushrod links because I'm to cheap to buy any. Plus mine work better when fully installed.

Yes it is in use. It was for a friend of a friend of a friend, lol.
That seems stupid about your situation, but your plane is coming along nice.

Sorry no updates. Life happened again and I got busy and the EP DLG project was pushed onto the back burner. On a good note necessity dictated I get another printer. An eye on eBay for two months lined me up with a fully modded Rep2. Heated silicon bed with glass plates, full bearings (not bushings), aluminum carriage, arms, carriers, and extruder parts make it true and solid. Plus a nice enclosure, everything, the works, and it prints anything I've put through it (nylon, bronze, Nijaflex, T-glass, ABS, PLA, etc. and quickly too if I want. I was knocking out those PLA shark clips accurately at 120mm/sec. Don't like going that fast but it did it without hardship on parts. Found out Ethyl Acetate fusses and vapor smooths PLA just like acetone does ABS. Very good news for me and my clients because cold weather and ABS don't mix.
btw, I just turned on the house heater for the first time this winter. I feel for you guys.

Good to hear on the Ethyl Acetate. Was your new printer a one off or is there a seller selling more of them. It sounds nice.
I just test flew a half printed plane this weekend and it went ok. I'll try to post some pics soon.

It was a one off setup that didn't get re-assembled correctly mechanically so it didn't work quite right. I spotted the Z screw rod out of its capture hole early in the inspection and had to tear down pretty fear to get it corrected. Luckily that shaft is stronger than the stepper because nothing was bent.

Looking forward pics of the half printed plane.

I just had a couple PhlatLab links land in my email box so I figured I'd jump over and see how things are going on the forum. Guess I missed the spamfest. My electric DLG project stalled do to busy schedule. I need to finish that. It's all printed just needs the busy work like servo linkages and such.
I noticed the date log on my Phlatprinter 1.5 and it seems I haven't run it in over two years. So I sold it to a friend. Told him of the site and I hope he signed on for answers. Haven't run my Blacklabs CNC mill either in two years. Guess that 3D printing bit me hard.

I must say I'm really surprised I'm liking PLA so much. The figurines I'm doing on consignment are mind blowing good. Makes my ABS stuff look like a washed out road. The new filaments lately are freakin tough as nails too. There is a nice clear called XT Clear that if you can print at 245C you'll be amazed. And this new Taulman3D PLA has no shrink and is just spot on for prototypes.

I'll keep a eye out for your new 3D printer.

Yeah my 3d printer has been seeing a lot more action than my phlatprinter.
I like PLA a lot too but lately I've been playing with ABS more.
I don't know if you guys know about Buildtak but it works really well for me with both PLA and ABS. Nylon did not stick to it at all but I dont use Nylon that much so when I do I just put some painters tape on the Buildtak and it worked fine. I've found my ABS has been sticking to it at 60 deg C.

Shaun, I didn't hear about this Buildtak. It's a bit pricey. Do you pre-coat it with slurry before you print with ABS?

No slurry needed. Just print directly to it.
It is a little on the pricey side but it's worth it. First time printing is best to have the nozzle higher than normal and slowly bring it down to find the sweet spot. If it's too low the part may not come off.
