we are working on a phlatprinter 3 for a team project trying to get it up & running. Is there software to run it available for free or for purchase?

    • Driving Steppers?

The teacher pulled the unit from the basement. We're in the process of hooking a computer up to the unit at our next class but there wasn't any software with the unit. Someone suggested downloading Mach3 but will this run the Phlatprinter?

As Jnida63 said, Mach3 will run the machine but it will run in evaluation mod which allows for only 500 lines of code. A licence cost about $175. Contact the company, maybe they have licences for schools at a reduced rate.

If you can run Linux on your computer then there is a free program in Linux. I think it's called EMC.

it depends on the driver hardware, we really need to know what is there!
or in other words: what cable are you using to hook it up to the computer, USB or parallel printer type?

if it is a USB driver board, then you need the software that works with that board.
if it is parallel port driven, then LinuxCNC or Mach3 can be used.

in this post http://www.phlatforum.com/xenforo/threads/sketchucam-download.3128/ is a link to instruction videos for the phlatprinter that you need to watch.
there are plenty of youtube videos explaning how it all goes together, once you have identified the driver board you can watch videos specific to that board.
