Not an error affecting the program, but something to clean up with the next update.

"Safe Length (X)" shows popup "width of material" :

While "Safe Width (Y)" shows "Height of material" :

Happy New Year to one and all.

    not a bug, a feature (-:
phlatprinters have X being the feed through, so that is material "length". (and some axes were reversed too)
when displayed on the Sketchup screen, X is width and Y is height.

Weird as the discussion over at OpenBuilds says not to do that - switching axis 'labels'/purpose from the 'norm'.

Just thought if SketchUcam is becoming more generic, as opposed to specific to the PhlatPrinter origins, it might be good to stay with the 'norm'. No big deal, as long as the behaviour of SketchUcam matches the axis displayed in SketchUp. Maybe have the text in the bubbles changed to, for example in the case of the X axis : "Length of material (ie. PhlatPrinter width)"... It's still short, but PhlatPrinter users are reminded it's actually their width.

Personally I see my X as length and my Y as width and I use a Phlatprinter.

and I agree. however, the phlatprinter was designed and sold before the XYZ standard for CNC machines became easily discoverable on the web. the designer, being right handed, wanted to have X0 Y0 at the front right of the machine (spindle is underneath remember), and this caused axis reversal, and some conceptual confusion, and the existence of the 'use overhead gantry' setting in the parameters dialog.
There are still hundreds of Phlatprinters in use, and we cannot just leave them behind.
yes, this has merit and I'll put it on the list of things to look at for the next release, thanks.

Me too and if you think about it carefully, the PhlatPrinter is conventional if you stand at the side of it and look at the x0 y0 point. It's on the left bottom!

Just a matter of perspective, my friends!

Make sense ... the Phlatprinter needs to be looked flat on our back, looking up at its underside. :D I'm also left handed, so adds to most of my confusion. :sorry:

But that should not change the labelling of XYZ. Math class had that covered long before CNC came about. I'm also getting old. :oldman:

I guess I was standing, instead of on my back looking up - perspective indeed. Maybe you can help me out : why is it so hard to find left handed cups ? Even this one :coffee: is right handed.
