Here is a video of the PP cutting out balsa. It does a great job.
I'm using a 1/16" fluted chipbreaker with a fishtail point. I was cutting at 70% feedrate, but the 1/8" balsa could have been running at full speed no sweat. The 1/4" balsa was fine at the 70% but the wood was hard in certain areas.
    Here is the video.

This is the type of bit I used. Attached files [IMG] [IMG]

    Thanks 3DMON!

Nice video! I can't believe you can cut 1/4" balsa... Thats just crazy!. Can you post some closeup pics of the bit you use for us to see it?

p.s. Here is your video of the Phlatprinter cutting 1/16" plywood added as well

Excellent! Thanks for the info. That pretty much confirms that I will need to purchase a Phlatprinter.

I want one smaller than the 1/16" for cutting the thin balsa. I think I would get some awesome cuts.

3DMON - Is there an online source to buy those bits? The only place I can find is in the U.K.

The prices at both places are really good (read that cheap), but the bits are only 1 1/2" long, so I guess you get to reset Z=0 at 1/2" up from the stops. Rats, my router cutoff switch isn't THAT tall. :geek:

    Thanks for the links guys.

3DMON, I've been dying to try this! I've got the bits, I've got the will, I DONT HAVE the plywood! :( Where do you guys get this stuff? Craft stores? LHS? (I'm nealry out of those to try) Online?

I was able to feed 1/4 hard board just fine with the right bit, but there was too much slip on the X axis, I bet this could be solved very easily with a little effort, but it's not often I'd even need to cut that stuff, maybe a firewall or other project, but that would be about it. Better to use light plywood.

I get my ply from the local hobby shop. You can get it online at http://www.Balsausa.com too.
Masking tape around the outer edges helps the rollers grip alot better too.
