fellas, first of all i want to thank the fellas that had input to my build questions. so the build begins...i decided to build a profile starship, as of now i do not possess the drawing skills as the more talented phlatboyz here. i decided to use 6mm depron on the built, even thou its the prototype. i am going to use a blue wonder 1200kv motor and 9gram servos. i decided to use the lower kv for the model. as i said before i am a very slow builder, that's just my nature, but i am hopefully wanting to maiden this fall before winter. this is so i can do another if there are changes to be made this winter. any ideas, or input are more than welcome, as i just have experience building proven kits. anyhow most of my posts will be photos as i don't type well... please pay no attention to my messy work area, someday i will clean it up...so the the build begins.....randy.

    Looking good Randy.
You might want to do some glide tests before putting the electronics in to find the CG.

well the monkey found his first mistake....if you look at the ship's body side you can see two cut-outs that i had to fill. i fixed and glued on the body sides. also i think i should decide to continue the communication dish around the side. i am fixing program as i go...wish i can get my good camera back from my brother soon...randy.
    sides glued on...

yea, will do....thanks Shaun. from all the info you fellas pointed me to the CG is rite in the center of the disk. also i was going to install both the motors on a slight to help fly the model level...one thing i cant stand is them foamies that drag tail down when your going strait, unless you go slow and want to fly high alpha. I'm thinkin like 2 degrees?. this one is a true prototype, lols. randy.

the motors are joined now...under the blue tape, thers a little balsa triangle....i made two foam shims and used rubber bands to mahe sure the motors parallel. after drying overnight, i will draw up some cross bracing.....randy.

i am getting ready to glue up motor braces, and motor to the main body. at regular half throttle flight, i do not want this model to like like a wallowing indoor foamie. i intend to build in some incidence into the motors to the fuse. the fuse support will maintain zero alignment to the disk. in the photo i exaggerated the incidence i plan to do. my question to the scratch builders is how much incidence?? i am planning on 2 deg. right thrust on the motor mount......i am kinda thinking 2 deg. on the motors also. this should keep the back from drooping as much, and help with level flight. any ideas on this incidence is welcomed. thanks for any suggestions. randy.

    Hi Randy,
I always start with 2degrees of right and down thrust for this type of plane. If you have it set up with dihedral under the disc you may not need it!! I would just keep the engines straight to the disc and mess with the motors themselves!! CG will be a big deal on this bird as well but your dominant airfoil is the disc so do a few glide tests and see which way it pulls add some weight and try again until it feels pretty level!! Oh yea add some 1mm carbon bracing on those thrusters LOL :)
    Looking great Randy!!

Wow Randy this is really looking sharp! I love the way the thrusters go together they seem to be really strong.
Keep up the good work brother :)

pilot, yea i am on my way to the store to get some glue, kicker ans some fibers...i plan on a 2 degree right and down thrust on the motor. i want to have the back end not sag in flight....i am thinking about a 2 degree incidence when i glue up....i donno thou, i suppose it will be trial and error. it would be cool to make them adjustable maybe, but the weight...that back gotta stay light. i didn't think of it til now, the pocket lighting would be the way to go...maybe next one. randy.

captain kirk to Scottie...captain kirk to Scottie, come in.......Scottie here.....Scottie i need the warp speed drives fixed now!!.....captain...im goin the fastest i can!!...lols, mark got me all geeked up with his announcement, lols. the star-ship is starting to take form.....i installed the impulse drives, and am starting to do the bracing....you cant see them but its backed with real thin ply for the fiber support...installing the drives i decided to use a 2 degree incidence. hopefully it will give the back a lil lift. i am still waitin for my motor mount. i got it from lazertoyz, but i donno were its at. i got a pay-pal confirmation but nothing from lazertoyz....this is holding me up from startin the front disk...anyhow its sittin up now in the dock area, lols. this has to be one of my most fun builds...randy.
settin up the 2 degree incidence...

i installed the motor bracing...man the thing got rigid...I'm not sure i need to brace more, i got a bunch of 1mm fibers, like pilot was talking about...man this thing got strong. the braces were not tabbed, just cut on the phlatty then glued up...well I'm at a stand still til i get the mount...i am going to build complete, without the hardware and weigh, then i will see what i got..lightness is paramount in my mind with the build. wish we had some nice pocketing phlatcode...i hear ther working on it. only wish i knew more to help out...peace, randy.
