Sounds fun Randy, I need to get a few birds out this weekend!! I have been spending my fly time on these experimental plans and feel the need for 3D :D
    Have a good time tomorrow!

got the disk programed and cut. the disk is a 20in dia. gluing it in position in the photos...after i have to come up with bracing to tie in the thruster section. flew my F-22 yesterday, ther was a 15mph wind....im not sure if the model is a pos, or if the wind was just messin with it. the eagle flew beautiful thou, and stayed up 45mins with only using 800mah from the battery. randy.

got the electrics installed today...the motor is a blue wonder 1200kv, the stock 10amp speedy, 2 HTX 9 gram servos, a 1300mah lipo. all left is to install the two pushrods. they will be .080dia. fibers. ready to fly minus the two pushrods the weight is 13.1oz. with tha 20in dia. the saucer disk it should haul the weight. the cg is 1.0in tail heavy. i have the pack as far to the frount i can get.....i have the lil sticker weights to use, or i will probally just fly the way it is. hopefully a monday maiden is looking good. randy.

thanks 7-up, its coming along better than i figures...iflyos "tim" and i was talking about the thrust angles...i told him i just programmed it in. i used a 2deg right thrust for the model. i wanted to show him how i did it. also i made a drawing for the HTX 9-gram servos. the servos fit very nicely. randy.

never again....the blue wonder motors is just that....ya really wonder....man what a bunch of junk...the one my friend gave me is so crooked and wobbly its stupid. he assured me it was brand new outta the box.....so installed the new one i bought. carefully balancing the prop perfectly i ran the motor up with my Medusa power analyzer. it peaked out at the 110watts at 10amps, it was perfect to the spec's. unhooked the meter, and ran it at half throttle. after about two minutes the thing crapped out. all the work and time us modelers put into our builds....i am slow to anger, but man im a very unhappy guy....like real mad at this cheap junky garbage hardware...even at just $15 bucks, that was like lighting it with a bic lighter, just a waste of money. i was planning to maiden the model tomorrow. the auw ended up being 14.3oz. now is isnt going to happen, and as of now i donno know when. i always had good luck with my hackers....shame on me for messin with this cheap junk...randy.

OK, after i cooled of a bit, i decided to solder on a castle speedy. the motor is fine, it was the junk blue wonder speed controller. if you fellas really want a treat, when i unsoldered the connectors ya should see them....man what cheese. i understand that the components are inexpensive, but man common....the connectors? that cheesy?? that's plain cheap. very unacceptable....so at $16.50 the speed controller was junk, although I'm sure the motor is also. man life is to short for cheap cheesy r/c hardware...looks as if i can get my maiden in tomorrow after all. the old monkey needs peace, lols. randy.

after the set-back, the maiden will take place tomorrow after all. the extra weight of the 25amp castle controller brought the auw up to 14.7. it was 14.3 with the hunk of junk one. i plan on getting some video of the maiden. the weather in Michigan is perfect....figures, its perfect with fall approaching, lols. oh yea the little extra weight from the controller put the cg perfect, i guess i can be fortunate that people make cheap garbage r/c hardware...randy.

Looking great Randy!! I only use the CC P10 or T9 ESC everything else in my eyes is not worth the money. The blue wonders are OK if you run them on 2 cell Lipos, hence why I stick with the 1700kv. Also you can save a tone of weight . I bet your 3 cell 1300 is more than half your AUW. You could build this at under 10oz and run the 2cll with the 1700 kv no problem. I know balance is tricky but hey, you could mount the motor stick 8" in front of the LE disc :D

    Great job my Friend

thanks pilot, the 1300mah marginally balances the starship...I'm not sure you can tell but the model is over 4 feet long. when i drew up i wanted to keep the proportions of the real starship. if you did a 2 cell, you would have to add weight for cg ....i figure if i gotta add weight, it might as well not be dead weight. also i didnt want to hang the motor way out front....if you notice i just wanted the prop to stick out. if this model proves to be good, i will probably build a better one. i wish i had tv casulity's ability for 3-D programming that would be awesome. also this is my first experience with the lets say inexpensive components...moving forward i will resume using the components that i am accustomed to using. ther isn't any bargain or value with the cheap components. its just a waste of money to me.... even if someone gave the stuff for free, i just wasted money on glue to install. randy.

you are right about that!! I have been in the same bind before with the add weight thing and I would rather add more flight time than a roll of quarters LOL :D I have been building my own motors for a while ( via the Gobrushless.com gbx single kits) and they are virtually indestructible. The down side is you wind your own stators to whatever kv you want and they cost $24 in kit form!! Other wise I like to build 8oz or less or 8lbs or more. For some reason anything in between becomes kindling :)

the starship maiden was a complete failure...i didn't get video, my friend help launch instead....he tolled up underhand, wile i had half throttle....it took off rather slowly, and i gave some more power...all it did was circle to the right....it would not turn to the left with full control deflection. eased back throttle and gently landed.....checked the control surfaces.....looked to be plenty of left control. tossed backed up to try again, with the same result. the project was a big waste of time, and was a complete failure. i really thought it would fly....but it was not to be..... i will strip out the hardware and build one of my proven models....well i tried...randy.

Since it's such a dismal and disgusting failure, would you mind pointing out the surfaces that you thought were going to provide directional control? I believe your CG is somewhere in the middle of the aileron surfaces, right? So, the best the ailerons could give is an axial roll, right?
Maybe if you added a vertical hinge just aft of the disk, you could pivot the entire "fulelage" left and right for directional rudder control.

C'mon Randy - this is a completely unconventional design and you're only going to give it one shot, using conventional control methods? :?:

Dennis is right Randy!! My Speeder Bike was relying dominantly on the rudder control for turns, the elevons only kept it upright at most! Remember these are not proven planes and if you use the trial and error method Im sure you will get her fly'n. Maybe not like a 3D machine but who cares, its an Enterprise that in the movies was surrounded by weightlessness in space, almost as if you had helium under the disc HMMMM, now theres an idea!! Keep try'n Randy you will get it soon and make good use of that 6mm depron!! I had about 20 flights before I even got mine in the air for more than 3 seconds LOL!! :D

    Randy, Randy...

C'mon Bro. Don't give up on it. It sounds like you just need some way to give it rudder input.

You did such a great job on this to just let it go.
