Calibration problems

    When i set up my Y axis the printer moves like it is supposed to. when i put in the actual length and it sets the Y axis then try to send printer home it make a horrible buzzing (missed steps?) and the Y gantry quits moving.
    When i use the jog keys in mach everything moves fine.
    Am i missing a setting somewhere?

    Try lowering your velocity under the Config - Motor tuning menu. Then re calibrate.
    The jog speed is different then the travel speed so when you attempt to send it home it is trying to move too fast.

    Ok, slowed it down to 9 velocity and it sets fine, but when i send printer home it is 3 1/2 inches shy of Y axis returning although the readout says 0.000. am i still missing steps going back to home position?

    I was having this prob too and rember that mach3 is in half speed unless you hold the shift key down. so when using the jog keys hold shift . you will see the missed steps in full speed because of the faster you go the less toqure.

    So you started out with it in the home position and then ran the cal. You typed in say 15" for how far you wanted to move the Y and then when it stopped you measured from the home to the stopping point. Typed in haw far it actually moved. and then set it home?

    If you did all that and you are still 3.5 inches away from the end then you are missing steps somewhere along the line, but you should be able to hear that.
    You may need to watch the all thread and if it is binding along the path take you hand and pull on it to try to straightening it out a little. It does not take much to bend this all-thread so be careful not to over do it. The straighter you can get this all-thread the better.
    Another thing to look at is the tnut. It needs to be perpendicular to the all thread so that it does not bind. If you need to take out two of the three screws holding it on and loosen the last screw to allow for it to move. Jog the system back and forth and see if it moves and where. Try to find a happy medium for it to seat. Put the two screws back in making sure that you do not angle the tnut when you tighten them down.

    Ok, this is weird, when i put it back to where i want home to be and hit home printer it still shows the Y axis at -3.4420 and the X axis at -2.5500

    Y axis is fine, i don't think it is missing steps, i can't seem to get it to home printer to 0 coordinates

    I wound up just taking everything down to 3 on the velocity and 15 on the acceleration. Just about any stepper will muttle through that speed. Then one at a time take the speed up say, 3 on X first get the speed up till it misses a step and back it down a couple. Then go to Y and do the same and see what happens. You'll get to a point where the stepper is clearly not moving as it should. Back it down a number or two. That is what your going to have to work with. I know I'll probably get corrected on this but when adjusting the voltages let the stepper run and then back off the voltage pot till the stepper stops moving then take it up very slightly till it is running smooth again. Keep a very, very close eye on heat from the stepper motor and heat sink on the controller board. Doesn't take them long to react to changes of that voltage. This is flat out my own recommendation. Your results may vary.

    I think i figured it out, i had to load default screenset and ref all hom, then had to go into another screen to set each axis at zero
