so my dad and i were figuring out the cog on my f22 and we decided to look up what a store bought cog balancer looked like so i could design one in sketchup.
needless to say it doesnt look anything like the one we saw but, i think it will work just the same.
we havent cut it out yet so there is no pictures but, i might post some sometime.
there is no glue required except to glue the triple layers together.
this makes it easy to take apart and store it.

    here is the sketchup file.
you are welcome to change it and make corrections where you see needed! :)
enjoy! Attached files [IMG] plane cog balancer.skp (851.9 KB)Â

Nice job boyz! I love it.. This is going to be handy to have rather then trying to balance with my fingers and make the spot at the same time :)
    Great job!

I love the fact that you can adjust it to fit the width of a plane.

I cut this out, it is set up for green FFF (ours is .2" thick) and a 1/16 bit. There are some issues, first is the tabs aren';t long enough so the panels were getting loose and jaming Rosie. Second, something is up with the trianglular parts. 2 of them cut fine as normal, the other four cut crazy, jumping all over the place. they finally did cut out fully, just took longer and the edges seem not as nice.

I know some of you know the answer to this problem, so feel free to chime in. :)

Otherwise, I am sure Alex will put this together tonight and give a report. ;)

Your problems are probably caused by flipping the part with phlatlines already applied. Check this thread for the discussion: viewtopic.php?f=100&t=1863&p=18337

The following pictures are screencaps from the free version of NCPlot software: http://www.ncplot.com/ncplotfree/ncplotfree.htm Check the last picture for the fix. You can only fix it by flipping back, if all cut lines are bad. Otherwise, you fix some and the good ones now go bad. Redoing the phlatlines should work every time. Awesome Kwok, Thank you! I will make sure Alex gets this too! :D :D

As a side note, my NCPlot v1.2 shows the iso from a different corner. hmm

Oh? I remember I had all the tabs disappear on some parts if I moved the part after applying the tabs, but I thought that had been fixed so I didn't bother mentioning it. I guess flipping a part creates the same issue, so the resolution is to never move, flip, bend, fold, spindle or mutilate a part after any Phlat-lines have been added.
btw, what I do now is completely delete all Phlat-lines from the entire file if I need to reposition anything, then re-apply everything when the parts have assumed the position, so I KNOW they will all be cut.

Kwok, how did you know that Bert had flipped those parts? Is there a history log attached to the skp file?

Aww Dennis, surely you don't mutilate any parts do you?

    No Sir, I do not!
But I am consistently unable to prevent the unfortunate consequences of unpredicted gravity storms.

Check that thread, I posted a link to. Even posted a video there, that is worth watch. I've just seen this before, the work of a serial flipper. ;) Let's see if there is an admission of guilt? :)

but i guess it worked since dad got it cut out. :)

So the lesson for us newbies, place all parts, then apply phlatscript.

@Dennis, we do not have any gravity storms here, instead the ground just jumps up and grabs the unsuspecting. :)

Sorry, I've only had time to cut MDF the last few days (experiments-some not so good :x )

I plan on cutting it tonight since the finger method isn't so hot on my larger planes like the 47" 3DHS plane I picked up a few weekends ago!

47" larger? Heck I use the finger method to balance my 8 foot C123

Seriously this is a great design... so simple, but that's the beauty of it.

Cut me some slack rcav8r, I'm rolling with a 4dr saturn, can't get bigger planes in there!!! Seriously, before I moved from FL to CA last year, I sold or gave away most of my planes and lived in an apt for 9 mo. Now I have some room again I'm going to start building bigger!

Seriously, I cut it this morning glued it tonight. Went easy with about 3 sticks of hot glue. If I was patient I probably should have used a PU glue and some glass with weights to laminate it all, but seeing as this was a simple tool, I just rushed through it and it went together easy.

I did have a problem with my printer that I've never had before. At one point on one of the A-frame pieces, the bit shifted on the Y about 1 cm in the middle of the outside diagonal cut. It then resumed the diagonal. What was weird is it was a perfectly straight line in the Y axis interrupting the diagonal travel. Never had this happen before. After I rebooted the controller box and re-ran the code it worked fine. Hope nothing is going on with my MK2!

Great design, simple and it worked easily, thanks for the awesomeness!

I've had problems when my screensaver or my antivirus was on. Now on my cnc computer I don't have an antivirus or screensaver. No more problems.
I don't know if that will help you but I thought I'd throw it out there.

Its an older box but not ancient. AMD Athlon 2.2 down clocked to 1.8 w/1 gig ram. Running Ubuntu and EMC2 exclusively, no AV and the screensaver (simple blanking) hadn't kicked in. Other than the wireless card, it should be pretty lean and efficient. I'll keep an eye on the problem and see if it happens again.
