Here is an awesome chuck glider that flies great and has simple build that is perfect for kids who can be trusted with a hot glue gun. I made these for my son's Cub Scout den last year and as a first-plane kit to work out the kinks in my MK2. I ran approximately 50 of them now and the kids have had a blast flying them.

Now that I have the Phlatprinter 3, I've reworked the code to be for Overhead Gantry. There is a lot of logo milling, which is intentional to test the cutting accuracy and depth calibration.

A pocket designed to fit a nickel is needed to achieve CG. CG is marked by hash marks on the horizontal piece.

File is set for 1/16th bit and it is possible to print three of them on the same piece of FFF with an "extension" piece taped to the X axis of the foam.

    Add a 10gr motor, 2 servos, rx, esc and 2s battery, you have a quick little elevon ballistic flier. Attached files F16_R2_productionOG.cnc (214.9 KB)Â SBChuckieF16_R2_OG_PRODUCTION_2.skp (1.8 MB)Â SBChuckieF16_R2_PRODUCTION.skp (595.2 KB)Â [IMG]

Thanks TT, this was the first plane successfully cut on my machine! The kids love tossing the planes around in the basement.

Oh wow, been at work all day and came home to see this! Cool! I actually have 5 more in this "scale". F6F Panther, F-18, F-4, F86 and an A4 Skyhawk. I haven't converted the code for OG on these but if you guys want me to post them, I will. The F-16 does fly best of all of them and is the easiest to build.

I originally posted this in my "Toxic Toast Projects" thread, but I guess the mods moved it to its own thread. Fine with me, thanks!

Thanks for the comments! Honored that Doug used this on his machine for a first cut, welcome to the club!

Not only did my kids love the F-16, the guys at my office had a blast this morning tossing it around as well! We discovered inverted flight on the F-16 was just as good as upright but, the Top Gun cool factor pushed the fun to new levels!

The guys were asking if I could customize a plane for them with lots of milling on the model for stars and bars, pilot figure, tail numbers, rivot patterns.....they don't ask for much do they!

Thanks for uploading the other files. I'm looking forward to munching some more foam this evening.

THANKS for posting. I grabbed the F-16 last night, and my son and I cut out a few. He LOVED it. One flew great right off the board, and the other needed some tweaking so he got to learn about how balance effects the flight.
Just saw the new ones posted... looks like I'll have more to cut out.
    THANKS again
    Dave

    Last one.

I can't seem to find the F-18 and I think it went to that giant digital landfill in the sky. Shame as it was one of the more detailed and challenging to build (for a chuckie that is). And a pretty decent flier with the CG dialed in.

Glad to see ya'll enjoy these. Hope they serve your kids well! When you get bored, drive a screw into the fuse and rig up a rubber band catapult. 60 foot glides are a blast till they get stuck in the tree!

    Tschuss!

Thanks TT. These are awesome. I am looking forward to cutting these out. I'm sure my son will love them. One nit-picky point, the Panther is the F9 not F6.

    Thanks,
    Tim

These are just to cool and I have to say the F16 flys amazing!! I had to fix the nickel cut out as it was erratic and plunged dozens of times, if anyone is interested here is the code for 3 on one sheet of FFF!! Keep in mind I reversed the 5cent symbol for my MKII!!! :D
    Thanks

Looks great John. The F-16 does fly the best, and is just begging for a little 9gr motor!

If you have any scouts or school groups, this is a great activity for them. I usually keep a few in my car for kids that wait patiently, often with disinterest, while their dad flies, or when someone with a kid takes interest in my RC activities at the park. I just hand them out since it is pretty cheap and easy to knock a few out.

I cut these when I haven't used my printer for a while and think I need to make sure everything is working well before wasting a sheet of Depron! Been there and done that, lol.

Thanks for sharing your results! Next you need to make a slingshot to launch them seriously high!

Thanks to you Chris!! This is the perfect little flyer and once the weather clears the kids and I are going to see how far we can get them to fly down my 156ft driveway, I love your slingshot idea :D I will see if i can get the school to let my sons 1st grade class have a build and fly day , that would be awesome to see all the kids having fun!!! I will let you know if I build any of the others you posted!!
    Thanks again!

It's been a while since someone has posted in this thread, but I thought I would share my expierience with the F-16 chuck gliders.

Last night was our annual Pack Lock-In. Last year a friend and I performed a RC Airshow for the scouts. We flew the Champ, Ember, and a few 3D fommies. The kids liked it so much that we were asked to come back this year and we were given more time. I brought a few more friends and all kinds of planes, helis, and quads.

I figured I could make a glider for every kid, so they could have some flight time of thier own after the demo. I've made a few of these in the past for my Scouts, but this time around I had to ramp up production.

I ended up making 50 Gliders using $tree foamboard. The foamboard worked great and actually held up better than the fff versions that I've made in the past. I had to adjust the placement of the nickel, but after that they flew great. I used Aspire to create the cutfiles, so I don't have sketchup files, but I'll post the G-code just in case anyone wants to produce them in large quantities on foamboard.

It takes 3 sheets to make 6 gliders, 2 sheets for the wings, one for the bodies. I used a 1/8" bit, so I had to manualy cut the slots open with a razor. Also, make sure you line the foamboard up where it is almost all the way under the front roller.

Thanks again for the original files!! :D Attached files F16 Top Profile X3.cnc (24.3 KB)Â Side Profile X6.cnc (80.9 KB)Â [IMG] [IMG]

Awesome story! Glad these worked for you. I still keep a few in the car and give them out to kids who come to watch us fly. The f16 is definitely the best of the bunch! Thanks for sharing :D
