Here is the I3d designed by Dave Royds.
I converted the .pdf file over to a sketchup file. Read the .pdf to see the foam sizes used as I didn't dimension any slots for FFF.
It was designed for 3 different sizes of EPP foam.
I did no Phlatscript or positioning of the parts either Attached files I3d.skp (4.4 MB)Â

    Cool Jeff!
    Looks like a great plane!
I think the fact that he used 3 different sizes in foam would be a pain. I would just redesign it for all one size, it would make it much easier to cut and deal with.
Great job, we need more plan conversions like this going on.

I myself would make it for 2 sizes of foam, rediboard for the fuse skins and FFF for everything else, I may work on changing that, as I think FFF sides would not work too well on it.

Im almost done re-doing the file you posted ;)
I removed some of the unnecasary bits ( IMOHO )

It will be for all 3mm depron with some serious milling on the top wing and fuse sides.......

Thank you for posting your sketchup file
I always wanted to build this plane but didnt want to hand cut all the parts. especially in EPP....

Now i dont have to ! Attached files [IMG]

    ewo, that looks cool!.
If you are going to pocket that lettering remember that it needs to be mirrored because the Phlatprinter cuts from the bottom up. Otherwise the name will comeout reversed :)
    Keep up the good work.

This is pure Rock & Roll ewo and Jeff ...... I love Dave Royds designs. That guy knows his onions! It must have taken some persuading to get him to let you publish one of his designs as a cut file. I know he's not always that easy to persuade.

    Great Stuff!! Well Done! :D

Fozzy don't forget if its already posted as a free plan, it can be redone in other formats like DXF, PDF, etc.. including the Phlatcode :)
    Its the new style :D

Anyone here willing to test this file on some scrap ? Its just the milling for the letters for the wing......
Lots of milling you have yet to see ! It does take a little time to cut !

I admit i did have to do a little hand cleaning of the milling. But just a bit .

The hole file to be posted soon as im shure its right...... ;)

    Thanks......... Attached files I3d.cnc (31.3 KB)Â

Here you go :) looks great, the only thing I would suggest is a pencil cleanup centerline cut around the outside of the of the milling area to clean up the outside fuzz. Other then that it looks great! :)
Took 8:50 min at 100 ipm

Hey Thanks for trying it Mark. Mine took almost 15 minuts, But i did lower my speed a bit.
I had to fix my z axis this morning . replaced the all thread and the carrier nut.......

So this is what you are telling me to do to clean it up ???? :p

Most of the fuzz on mine was at the top of the lettering, wasnt a big deal to knock it off with my thumb nail, but it would be great if i dont have to do that

    Thanks Attached files [IMG]

What if you did the pockets like this. I just use the offset tool. once you space the setting you can 2x click in the aera then fix "erase" the over laps that happen sometimes in the corners.

I compiled the file you posted ET , i dont think that is the best way to do this (IMOHO)

if im reading what you were meaning corectly? Looks to me like a zig zag cut then a pencil cut at the edges should work quicker. and clean the fuzzy top edge at the same time,,

Or am i missing something ? where is the offset tool ? What does it do?

Offset tool is the second picture. I use an 1/8th inch bit so I offset my faces 1/16ths.

First picture is my method of pocketing, offsets in this pic are 1/2" so it is easy to see.
I start by offsetting the face 1/16ths at a time until square is filled, then I run a vertical line down from each corner. I then erase the small horizontal line and you have a perfect pocket.
Seems easiest for me anyways. Attached files [IMG] [IMG]

yes I think mine is somewhat overkill but it gets the whole edge so no fuzzies. The nice thing about the offset tool is once you set the first one 1/16 or what ever you can just 2x click and it will do the next one and so on. it looks very clean after its cut.

I like the way Jnida63 does his also :D

I have a Plane , Its all cut out and i will build it tomorrow night.
Im removing the parts from the sheets tonight then off to bed.

it took 2 and a half sheets of foam. Not a big deal for this plane at all. the cuts look great
I did find out though that the strut slots on the top wing werent right. But i have the file fixed.
it was my fault though i just didnt draw them right.

also didnt add all the goodies to this first test cut. i wanted to make shure everything fit first. :) Attached files [IMG]
