I bought a bundle of the Green Guard FFF at Lowes and decided to try it out on a Lazy Bee that I've been working on in Sketchup.

This was designed in Sketchup along with the paint scheme I used and with the Phlatscript plug-in I output the designs to gcode which aloud me to cut all the parts out on my Phlatprinter.

The paint masks I used were also cut on my Phlatprinter. I cut them from an old cardboard box that I broke down until it was flat and some scrap pink foam I had lying around. Mind you, this was an experiment and learning experience for me. The masks came out great but my painting skills need some work. Next time I will secure the masks to the foam instead of just holding them up to the foam and spraying away. BTW, I uxod Krylon H20 spray can paints.

    The Foam
It is comparable to the OC Pink but not as brittle. It is flatter than the Blue or the Pink. It cuts very well in my Phlatprinter and by hand. I doesn't take much heat so use a low temp glue gun or keep the tip of you gun from making contact with the foam. Hot glue bonds really well to it.

It is fairly flexible but not as forgiving as the blue. It comes with one clear side (no printing) and on printed side. For my Phlatptinter I cut with the printed side down. I works for me. Dust from the cutter is not a problem

If you need to make bends, the "counter top edge rub" works pretty good but if you are going for are tighter radius I suggest fold lines, also called score marks or bend lines. Either way put the printed side to the inside of the radius to keep the foam from snapping.

One last thing I discovered about this foam, it sands easy but on the areas you sand and remove the skin (clear side), it will suck up paint like crazy causing discolorization between skinned areas and exposed areas. Maybe another shot of paint to the raw foam areas would remedy that but I haven't tried it.

Below are some pics and I have made some changes to the original files for which I'll post soon If anyone is interested. Remember this first one was just to find all the mistakes so I can improve the next one.

    Wingspan is 36
All the foam parts weighed in at 5.2 oz.

Phlatcode and SU files posted in FREE PLANS section here --> http://www.phlatforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=34&t=1846

I haven't weighed it with electronics installed and plane assembled. Looks pretty darned impressive to me... I like the paint mask idea. I am (someday) gonna do this with my AMA number so putting it on a plane will be easy as pie... Unfortunately my painting skills aren't to where yours are, so it will be a messy pie ;)

Nice to see a "review" on the green stuff. I was debating between ping and green and went with the pink... maybe I should have went with the green.

Interestingly enough I called Dow to see where I could get the blue stuff locally. The only places are about an hour+ drive. The lady then told me about alternatives that Lowes still sells. I told her I had a rather specific need for the blue-core. She asked if it was to build R/C planes... She said about 90% of the calls she gets are for guys who build R/C planes and are looking for it now that Lowes doesn't seem to carry it anymore.

Thanks Mark. I know most folks here aren't interested in seeing cut up foam sheets but I put those in there for the folks on RCG. Maybe it'll spark some interest as I posted it in my blog over there.

I know if I saw a sheet like that when I was hand cuttingm my jaw would have droppedto the floor.

I gurantee your painting skills are as good and probably better than mine.

The masks make it point and shoot. I did learn that they do need secured to whatever you are painting. :D I knew better but I just had to see what it looked like.
