A while back I made a EDG Mig15, quick design, had a few inherent EDF problems (ie: not over powered) But the biggest problem for me was battery life, the 6 min flight was killing me. Anywho Menards is closing out the VPX cells so I picked up enough to make another 4S A123 pack... Can't charge it in the field, but 12 min of flight time is 100% more then I had.

spent the last hour improving on the design, got a bit more work to do, gonna take a break for a bit, but here's what I've got so far:

WOW man that thing is unreal! I have to have it, breaks over :D
4S A123 - what size of a wing span are you looking at to carry the weight?

Got it cut and glued together, gotta re-do my battery pack, and tie in the servos. Looks better then the original design, but the hatch is a pile of garbage. Need to come up with a better plan for hatches... In the past i've always cut them after the fuse was together, this time I relied on CAD to do it for me, It is acceptable, but leaves lots to be desired.

    Pics to come shortly.

forgot to mention, the new script works very well. I'm impressed so far!

Kinda stalled out on this one, been wondering if a redesign on the hatch will be worth it. I think I'm gonna try and get it flight worthy first to see how it does. If all goes well I'll redesign the hatch and get a model online, otherwise I'll post it as is. There's a good chance my EDF is not ballzy enough, but then I wonder, exactly what will it do? I can't believe that this is a high drag aircraft, which would account for the lack of speed. Previous designs proved a thrust ratio of about .6, and I'm hoping to increase that with the use of cheater holes. Not scale but sue me, neither are 6 min flights!

Set a goal to assemble the battery packs tomorrow...

I'd like to get it maidened first to work out any kinks, but the model is done right now.
Just hate to put it online to need to change something later.

Do you have pic of the model cutout? that would be cool.. I am also wondering how well it folded up. The reason I ask is because of foam thickness. I am thinking maybe we should look into adding an allowance for bend radius depending on the thickness of the foam in the Phlatscript.

Yes I can get some, but not right now (stuck at work).
Everything folds out fine, and I learned how to do that by trial and error.

Good deal, did you have to compensate for foam thickness in your design?
Or did it work out just fine the way you designed it in sketchup.
    Thanks in advance

    Check this out,
    viewtopic.php?f=52&t=106

Should explain it all a little better (and I think it warrants a new post).

Nice job thanks for putting that together for us.
I created a new section called 'Scratchbuilt' Tutorials - Tips -Tricks under scratch built and I have copied it there as well as under the sketchup tutorials. So everyone will benefit from that.
    Thank you

    UPDATE!!!
MiG15 weighs in at approx 490 grams right now...
On the thrust stand it shows 430 grams of static thrust!!

These are very promising numbers, It's very likely the final weight will be closer to 510, but the thrust should not change, not quite enough for a hover, but it should provide much better performance over what it had. I doubt however it will be able to rise of grass, but that's ok. Worst case I'm looking at about a ratio of 0.8

    It should scream!
BTW, battery pack weighs 175 OZ for a 4s a123 VPX pack @14.4V/1100mAh, better performance could be had with a lighter weight LiPo...

Sorry guys this was held up for a bit, but I just got my new charge in the mail yesterday, and I can charge my 4s A123s in less then 10 min in the field. MiG15 is back to the top of the list. I'm quite happy taking 4 min to swap battery packs w/ 6 min flights.

    Pics to come!
