SketchUp Video Tutorials

    I've worked up a series of tutorials for SketchUp as it pertains to the PhlatPrinter and CNC machines.

    Please note that I am, by no means, a "pro" at using SketchUp. This documentation is only to help those people that know a little less than I do about using this program. :) Hopefully, these tutorials will give you a little insight of how I work with this application to cut out files on my PhlatPrinter.

    Also please note that these videos utilized the PhlatScripT v904 PlugIn. When I get to it, I'll put together a video highlighting the capabilities of the new v910 PlugIn!

    Crash, I'll bet you have some sort of script you use to remind yourself of all the things to point out, eh? Could you post a copy of those scripts? That would make it a lot easier to find which video, where, mentioned something in particular.
    (I really hate re-watching 10 minutes of video just to find the spot where "this or that" was mentioned, only to find I've watched the wrong video again.) :x

    I'm sorry, Dorsal. I have no script - that's the reason I sound like such an idiot doing these things! lol

    I could probably come up with some sort of outline, though. Give me a little time and I'll try to work up something for you. Be careful what you ask for, though - I have written many operation manuals and SOP's over the years, so what you end up getting may be more difficult to reference than sitting through the videos again! lol :shock:

    I kept the videos short so that reference at some later point would be less painful.

    how do you get the 3 views into setchup when i try to move and rotate around it it just dissappears

    When you import an image in Sketchup make sure over to the right it is set as an image not a texture. I think this may be the reason they are disappearing on you?

    Great tutorials, Mark! I learned a few things. I was amazed the components, can be scaled from the outside and not change the others. Had to test it out for myself. I notice one problem though. If you do the offset to one bulkhead, for the foam thickness, the offset won't be the same on each component if they are not all the same size.

    That's a good point about the resizing being different and that is where the pro version of Sketchup would shine using the dynamic components features. But I do not have that kind of dough :)
    I think you could go in and change each one but its such a small amount in this example that it would not make too much of a difference.

    Mark, have you seem the annotation features on youtube. I just tried them out today. I put 1 or 2 notes in my two phlatscript videos. In particular, I put a note at the end of the 1st, which when clicked is a link to the 2nd video.

    I have seen them I used it once on the surfer dude build log video, but have not really messed with them too much more then for that one video. It is a great feature though especially if you forgot to mention something during the filming. They can be quite helpful

    I really appreciate the videos. The only thing that keeps me from purchasing a cnc machine is getting the model I want into the PC. Now that I have watched these a few times I'm going to try and see if I can get a full fuse plane in. It may be a fact that you guys make it look easier then it really is. :eek:

    I think your going about it the right way. Sketchup is the easiest cad program I've played with but there is a slight learning curve. The videos in this forum will help a lot. It gets easier the more times you use Sketchup. Welcome to the forum.

    Try learning a tool a night, find out everything you can about that tool in one session. Keep that up for a week and you will have it down. Here are some good videos to get you started as they go through the tools. http://sketchup.google.com/training/vid ... o_gsu.html
