Google is selling Sketchup to Trimble, makers of GPS units and measuring equipment...

I wonder how this will affect us? I guess it might be time for me to learn a different cad package...as well as a different cam package.

word on a few other forums seem to indicate all will be well, and the free version will continue to be supported and expanded upon..

FWIW, I've been using DevCAD for my balsa/ply stuff. It has a CAM portion and works really well.

Not sure how this is going to go yet but I am still using version 7.1 so It really wont effect most of us as long as your happy using the version your at now. I think people will still write new plugins for SketchUp as well so I think it will keep going. However I have been looking for an excuse to learn a new cad package as well :)

Good point, Mark. I still use Sketchup 7, though I have installed 8 to stay compatible with some other folks I know. I just would hate to lose all the great resources and plugins that are out there for the free versions of Sketchup...

I tell you, Sketchup and the Phlastscript/SketchUcam really has me spoiled when it comes to design and g code generation. You guyz have made it so user friendly, and feature rich that I really don't want to learn anything else...though I am playing with FreeMill some for use with my Sherline, and of course using Slic3r and Pronterface for 3d printing.

I am using Rhino 3D 4.0 & RhinoCam 2012 with my pp and it works great.
If you buy both from MecSoft you can get Rhino 3D 4.0 at a discount.
Last time I checked, both software packages were around $1,600.00 U.S.

I have a metric and a inch Post processors I created to work with the pp.

Here are the Post processor files.
    pp inch.
    pp metric.

Both software packages are easy to learn. You can download demo copies.

    Rhino 3D 4.0 demo.
RhinoCam 2012 Demo. Click the Downloads tab.

Check it out. Well worth the money. Customer support at both companies is outstanding.

    Cheers.
