Here is a nice plugin I found that will add a small toolbar that allows you to toggle between inches and mm's.
I modified the original to have only inches and mm's in the toolbar.
This is a helpful way to be able to make our slots and tabs 6mm (because fanfold is closer to 6mm) instead of the not so great fit of 1/4".
The original has 5 buttons to toggle between feet, meters, inches, cm's, and mm's.
**Please note in order for it to work you have to be in decimal mode (change this in model info).**

I've included the .zip files to choose from. Just unzip to your plugins folder.

**Update** Kwok has updated the 2 icon toolbar to work with Sketchup 8. You can download it further down this page here: http://www.phlatforum.com/viewtopic.php?p=27546#p27546 Attached files [IMG] Toggle_units Inch to mm.zip (1.1 KB)Â toggle_units_5icons.zip (3.9 KB)Â

Great one, 3DMon! I was just thinking the other day that we needed a better way of flipping back and forth. I find myself doing it the harder way all the time! This will certainly speed things up for me.

Thanks for the mod, I've been using this plug-in for some time now and it really does help out.

Just an FYI, if you are in Imperial units, you can still type in metric units. For example when I draw, I do so in Imperial, but when making my tabs/slots, I just enter 6mm for length and it makes the line 6mm long.
Our good friend Dennis posted this long ago, and I've been using it since.

Hmmm. Your right. Just another reason why I stick with Sketchup 7.

I'm not sure what needs to be done to get it to work with 8. I can get it to show up but the buttons don't stay when I press on them. I wish when Google updates Sketchup that they would make things backwards compatible.

Well I searched a little a found a different toggle units toolbar that will work on Sketchup 8.
This version is made by the same author but it has more icons on the toolbar.
Here is the link at Sketchucation: http://forums.sketchucation.com/viewtopic.php?t=11745

    Hope that helps.
I'm sure the code can be edited easily to make the toolbar smaller like I did with the other but I haven't looked at it yet.

Here you go. I updated it to work in SU8. Just looked at what they changed in the new version, as it's not really documented in the ruby api what the exact setting are. I put the toolbar images in a separate folder, like they should be.

Thanks Kwok! I'll have to look at the two files to see what you did now. It will be nice when we get that ruby section...hint, hint Mark. :D

I never used this plugin before because, I normally used fractional units, so I made a new version I could use :) :
