This is the first plane I have created for the Phlatprinter.
A full fuse with built up wing ugly stick around 33" wingspan.
I have not cut it out yet, so there may be some line up problems.
If so let me know and I will fix it. Set up for FFF 1/8" bit.
Can be made as a high wing or low wing. with or with out alerons.
There are two verticle fins, one for each type.
No clue as to C.G. or power to fly it.

EDIT: This is a revised version I should have the problems worked out,
If you find any let me know so I can fix it.

    Thanks,

Nice work, Travis! I bet she'll fly nicely.

Rule of thumb for CG on a project like this - 25 to 30% of the wing chord back from the leading edge.

Cool looking plane Travis, I like the idea of being able to move the winglike that
Nice work looks like your sketchup skills are already rockin :D

OK....got the fuse cut and now working on the Right wing.

Goes together nice! Just a little cutting needed on the doublers.

I'm going to redue the PhlatCode before I cut the other wing....there are way too many Z moments....looks like the SU file needs some welding.

My Z axis jammed during the operation.....frick. I think I salvaged the foam before it got too far and reset. Let's see how it turns out.

The parts need to be grouped, too. Looks like it's jumping all over the place cutting all the inside cuts, 1st. Then doing the outside cuts.

Hay travisc, check out ncplot. http://www.ncplot.com It will help you do a quick view of what your phlatcode is doing. Even the free version will give you a real quick snapshot.

    Thanks,
I drew this up at work yesterday.
I saw Mark cut out the fuse today. Looked good.
I hope the wings come out ok.

Do you group each part after you do the toolpath work, before you save it to code?
I guess I missed that part when viewing the videos.
I designed the UglyStick in AutoCAD 2000, Sketchup does not like to keep the nice radius that AutoCAD does.
Sometimes I import things and they are fine, other times it is not.
Not sure if there is a way, orknowing how to go about setting up AutoCAD or Sketchup before importing.

I forgot and left out the notches on the doublers on the flat parts but it is on the 3D model
I will have to fix that.
This is also using the old script, I need to download the latest one.

I use Autocad & Sketchup at work to help me design the custom casework and Millwork we do. Before Sketchup I was using 3D Studio Max. Max is great for rendering, not so good at placing parts togather with snapping like Sketchup.

I generate the tool paths then group the part. Make sure you group them in the order you want them cut.

Your airfoil problem is probably caused by stray lines. I generated g-code for one of the airfoils and I notice after it finished cutting, it went to each of the tabs again. I used the stray_lines.rb plugin and it showed these stray lines that need to be deleted.

I used the weld function on the ribs and that corrected the issue. I'm rebuilding the SU file and regenerating the code.

I also mad the wing panel one piece rather than 2 that have to be glued together.

If y'all want it I can post them when I'm done.

I have updated the files, all problems should be fixed. if not let me know.
    It uses the latest Phlatscript.
The wings are still in 2 sections. I have added some holes for servo wire exits air vents and 9gram servo holes. You will have to route your linkage thru the fuse, so make sure you plan for that before you glue the fuse togather.

I still can not get the wings to work. It should , but does not.
I can not get it to bend around the leading edge with out it ripping.
Thewz can you post your wing design, hope it will work better.
Please post pics if you do build this.

travisc, Did you try warming the material with your heat-gun, as you bend it? Sometimes warming the material up makes a world of difference.

I've read where people use tape on the outside of the bend, to keep it from breaking.

Well, I think I know what my problem was. I was using some old foam that has the plastic film on both sides. I went to Lowes and bought a bundle of the type with only 1 side of film.
I takes a while fighting it to get it to fit , but it does work. I had to cut off the end of the leading eadge of each rib to make it fit. make sure you run it with the film on the outside, facing up on the phlatprinter.

I'll get the new files posted tomorrow after I try them out.

I added additional cuts in the center to remove more material to allow it to fold more easily.

I also moved the servo locations to get them in line with the aileron without needing too much angle in the pushrod.

rayclark, just below the picture in the first post it says, "Last edited by travisc on Mon Apr 13, 2009 3:09 pm, " but then Thewz posted later that evening saying he'd fix them "tomorrow" so I would bet the answer is NO.

I updated the files but still had some issues with the ribs. I'm also having issues with the fold lines for the wing panels.....I'll post what I have but it's not perfect.

Fuse is 1st rate, went together like a dream.
The wing on the other hand is giving me fits, I finally got it all glued up but it twisted and is unusable.
I am going to play with the wing drawing a bit to tweak it to my liking.
