Does anyone know if a USB to parallel port converter will work on a laptop and Mach3? THanks.

I have heard no. Now, there are some USB stepper controllers that are supposed to work. SmoothStepper (I think that's the name) I believe is one of them.

There is also a USB based board that coincidentally, I believe our hosts are a distributor of but it doesn't not run Mach3, but rather it's own software. The prices looks high at first glance but when you consider the board + the controlling software seems quite competitive. The demos I have seen look quite impressive.

No, they will not work with Mach3.

As David has said an external motion controller (many to choose from, USB or Ethernet) is the way to go.

This question is answered. Research says it won't work. Thanks.
