SketchUcam V1.5 was released on 24 Dec 2020.
You can download it from github https://github.com/swarfer/sketchucam/releases/tag/v1.5
The place to go for support is Openbuilds

Phlatscript is dead, long live SketchUcam 1.4D (Jan 2017)

The Phlatboyz team are proud to announce the release of SketchUcam 1.4d
    This release features:
    • Help updates
    • added 3D help section
    • arcmoveij() now always used for arc outputs
    • Old files with arcs that have no center property will be rejected, they have to be recoded
    • Errant G0 move with no code removed from plungebore in Marlin mode.
    • Marlin mode streamlined
    • Solve failure to find profile path on Mac due to iOS changing version string
    • Update translation file {- still need to add a lot of strings though
    • Pocketing - new method for complicated faces
    • laser mode holes for GRBL 1.1
    • GRBL 1.1 laser power control mode

The Download link is at the bottom of this post

If you have never used SketchUcam before, please watch the instruction videos

    Installing SketchUcam 1.4d
    There are 4 scenarios:
NOTE: 'previous version' below means prior to 1.1, if you have 1.1 onward, just install the newest as in (1) and restart Sketchup.

If you have Sketchup V7 you need to follow the instructions under (3) or (4) below, otherwise you can watch the video or follow the instructions in (2)
    1. Sketchup Make/SK8 with NO previous version of Phlatscript
    2. Sketchup Make/SK8 WITH previous version of PhlatScript installed (older than V1.0)
    3. Sketchup 7 with NO previous version of Phlatscript
    4. Sketchup 7 WITH previous version of Phlatscript
This install puts all the files in the Plugins folder, so any old files in the
Sketchup Tools folder have to be removed (very old versions were in Tools).

The plugin is now installed in the Sketchup Plugins folder, like this
    Code:
    C:\Program Files\SketchUp\SketchUp 2013\Plugins
    C:\Program Files\Google\Google SketchUp 8\Plugins

    OR
    Code:
    (for Windows 64bit)
    C:\Program Files (x86)\SketchUp\SketchUp 2013\Plugins
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Google\Google SketchUp 8\Plugins
Before you begin, if you have any older version of Phlatscript installed, make a copy of your 'Constants.rb' file NOW, and put it in a folder other than the Sketchup/Tools hierarchy because you are going to delete those
    old files.

    Scenarios
    (1) - Sketchup Make 201(3|4|5|6|7)/SK8 with NO previous version of Phlatscript
    • Download the file (bottom of this post)
    • open Sketchup Make 2017
      • click Window
      • click Extension Manager [IMG]
      • click Install Extension
      • navigate to the downloaded file
      • click Open
      • click Yes at the security warning
    • open Sketchup Make (2013|2014|2015|2016)
      • Click Window
      • Select 'Preferences'
      • Select 'Extentions'
      • Click 'Install Extention'
      • Select the downloaded file
      • Click 'open'
      • Click 'Yes' at the warning

    • Make sure 'Phlatboyz Tools' is ticked in the list of extensions. This applies especially to Sketchup Make 2016, make sure you tick the box next to the plugin name as indicated in the image below. installandtick.png
    • Click 'OK'
If the toolbar does not appear you need to enable the toolbar
    • Select View
    • Select Toolbars
    • Tick 'Phlatboyz'
    • Click 'Close'
You will now have 2 new toolbars, the SketchUcam tools
    upload_2017-4-14_11-1-25.png
    , and the Phlatbones tools.
    upload_2017-4-14_11-1-59.png
there is an optional third toolbar, the Quicktools bar, read the manual for instructions for accessing it.
    upload_2017-4-14_11-2-51.png

On Linux under Wine, and (maybe) on Mac, you might need to set (Tools|Phlatboys|Options|Misc Options menu)
    Code:
    Use_compatible_dialogs = true
in order to see the Parameters dialog. Or you can search the web for howto's
on setting up Wine/Mac with IE8 so that the web dialog works properly.

    jump to 'Notes'

    (2) - Sketchup Make/2013|2014|2015/16/17/SK8 WITH previous version of PhlatScript installed (prior to V1.0)

    Remove old version:
    • Make a copy of Constants.rb (or MyConstants.rb if you were trying out TRUEPLUNGE)
    • Delete the files
      • C:\\Program Files\\SketchUp\\SketchUp [2013|8]\\Tools\\Phlatboyz
      • C:\\Program Files\\SketchUp\\SketchUp [2013|8]\\Tools\\phlatboyztools.rb
      • and gplot.rb gplot.exe and the dll if you have that in 'tools'
    • Install SketchUcam as in (1) above
    • Rename your Constants.rb to MyConstants.rb and put it in
      Code:
      C:\Program Files\SketchUp\SketchUp [2013|8]\Plugins\Phlatboyz
    Jump to 'Notes'

    (3) - Sketchup 7 with NO previous version of Phlatscript
    • Download the RBZ file (attached)
    • Rename the file from .rbz to .zip
    • Use your favourite ZIP extrator tool to extract the contents to
      Code:
      C:\Program Files\Google\Google SketchUp 7\Plugins\
      preserving folders
    • Follow the instructions in (1) for enabling the toolbar if needed.
    Jump to 'Notes'

    (4) - Sketchup 7 WITH previous version of Phlatscript
    • Make a copy of
      Code:
      C:\Program Files\SketchUp\SketchUp 7\Tools\Phlatboyz\Constants.rb
      outside of the Tools folder.
    • Remove old files
      • C:\Program Files\SketchUp\SketchUp 7\Tools\Phlatboyz
      • C:\Program Files\SketchUp\SketchUp 7\Tools\phlatboyztools.rb
    • Install SketchUcam 1.1 as in (3) above
    • Rename your Constants.rb to MyConstants.rb and place it in
      Code:
      C:\Program Files\Google\Google SketchUp 7\Plugins\Phlatboyz
    • Sit back and seriously consider upgrading to 8 or 2013. 2013 imports/exports dxf natively, 8 has a nicer interface, and both support easy .rbz file plugin installs and upgrades!

    Notes:
    1. Paths: wherever a path is mentioned in the above instructions it refers to the common default install path. If your Sketchup is installed in a different place, then you must use the actual path. The critical part of this upgrade is that this plugin moves from the Sketchup /Tools folder to the Sketchup /Plugins folder.
    2. Read the help now, the big blue question mark in the toolbar!
    3. Use the Tools|Phlatboyz|Options menus to set system defaults. This replaces MyConstants.rb. These defaults apply to NEW DRAWINGS and Gcode generation.
The Phlatboyz team wishes to thank those who created tools or ideas that are now integrated into this toolset.

    • Tools|Phlatboyz|Options|Features|Use_End_Position - allow user to define an ending position for the tool other than X0Y0 so that the gantry can be moved out of the way at the end of a job. Compliments the 'use_outfeed' option, and the Use_Home_height option.
    Version 1.3 video
    • Ramping: (option on parameters dialog) instead of plunging Z straight down into the workpiece, the tool will ramp down along the first segment, optionally using the given ramp angle limit.
    • Set Ramp VTabs on Tool|Phlatboyz menu: this will set the ramping parameters for Vtabs so they use the ramp angle limit, do this BEFORE creating the Vtabs.
    • Commenting options, switch between using () and ; so you can use whatever your controller prefers in the G-code.
    • G-code Joiner is happy with both comment formats.
    • G-code Joiner file selection remembers the folder, and remembers a change in extension. Also detects Sketchup versions prior to Make2014 and works around the wildcard bug
    • Bugfix: Polygons are now correctly identified and output as line segments instead of arc segments.
    • Bugfix: 'Restore Defaults' button on parameters dialog was not metric aware and filled in incorrect values, now fixed.
    • G-code lines have been shortened to be more GRBL friendly.
    Version 1.3a
    • Bugfix: concave arcs on the edge of rectangle were not cut in the correct direction, causing scalloped edges.
    • Pocket zigzags now use fuzzy stepover. A new stepover is calculated from the given stepover such that the zigzag always starts and ends at the given offset from the edges. This prevents leaving large gaps at the end of the zigzag which might break a tool in hard materials. Note that complicated shapes can still leave oversize (larger than stepover) nubs that will be removed by the final outline pass. To mitigate this effect, use small stepovers in hard materials.
    • Pocket zigzag offset (the gap between the edge of the face and the edges of the zigzag) is now related to stepover instead of being a fixed 10%. This means that for large stepovers the cut takes less time, and for small stepovers the final outline cut is <=50% of the stepover value. Read here for details
    • Pocket tool now uses the same offset routine as the inside and outside cut tools making it much less prone to folded corners and other artifacts.
    • G-code Joiner will not output any comments if Use Comments is false. However, it will not remove comments already in the files being joined.
    • G-code Joiner now has an icon on the toolbar.
    • New 'Quick Tools' toolbar that allows you to quickly toggle the status of the 'Use Comments' and 'Comment Style' options. Using these will NOT affect the default settings set via the Tools|Phlatboyz|Options|Machine Options menu. Activate this toolbar by ticking the View|Toolbars|SketchUcam Quick Tools item. NOTE that these icons have no visible effect until you output Gcode, though you will see the current status of the setting when you hover over the icon (except in SK7).
    • Bug fixes that prevented Gcode generation in Sketchup v7.
    • All Gcodes and axis letters are uppercased in accordance with the RS-274-D standard.
    • Tools|Phlatboyz|Options|Feature Options 'Force all Gcodes on for Marlin' will force the output of a Gcode on every line instead of the normal optimized output.
    Version 1.4 (Nov 2015)
    • Bug fixes
    1. Fix for Phlatten tool.
    2. Fold/centerline/pocket tool depth in VCB. The depth can now be set to floating point number, eg 10.6% or 34.15% etc.
    3. Inputbox error checking.
    4. Joiner tool - bug in long filenames.
    • Added features
    1. Make the path to the gplot program a string in options so it is preserved between versions.
    2. Multiselect pockets
    3. Large plunge holes with sticky size
    4. Holes in a grid
    5. CounterSink/CounterBore tool
    6. Simple ABC axis commands
    7. Toolchange
    8. Rapid approach for Z plunge
    Version 1.4a (June 2016)
    Bug fixes
    • Many additions to help.
    New Features
    • Centerline cuts: prevent retract when possible
    • Fast approach: Approach the surface using G00 to within 0.5mm, then switch to G01 to begin cutting.
    • Very small arcs converted to lines. Arc segments with radius <= 0.010" can cause problems with some simulators and controllers. Convert them to line segments.
    • Chamfer wizard: Tool to set cutter diameter and depth for a chamfer cut
    • Gcode Joiner: adds default extension if not user supplied
    • Number formatting: remove trailing 0's in plunge holes to shorten lines for GRBL
    • Plunge holes: streamlined G00 moves when 'use reduced safe height' is true
    • Laser cutter/engraver control: Tick the Laser Control box on the parameters dialog and G-code will be output suitable for laser cutting on a machine that uses spindle commands to control the laser.
    • Large file load speed: Much faster now...
    Version 1.4b (Aug 2016)
    • TABs in laser cut mode
Tabs and Vtabs fixed for laser cutting.
Do not use V-tabs, only half of a V-tab will be cut.
Set tab depth to 0% 'to be removed' if you want the laser OFF during the tab cut.
    • Fix for compatibility menu
The order of multipass options was incorrect, preventing depth setting.
    • Streamlined Countersinks and Counterbores
They now avoid recutting the hole that has already been cut if it is larger than 2xBitdiam.
    Feed speeds adjusted.
    • Feedrates
Sometimes a required feedrate was not output because of using the wrong comparison method. Now using notequal() to compare to 0.0001".
Initial plungefeed rate will be output on the G90... header line so that there is always a defined feedrate.
    • Toolchange
    Help updated with improved examples.
    • Centerlines
Fix for 'backtacking' when centerlines are sometimes cut forward and sometimes backward within one curve.
    Version 1.4c (Jan 2017)
    • Help updates
      • added 3D section
    • arcmoveij() now always used for arc outputs
      • this improves arc accuracy and keeps Marlin happy
    • Old files with arcs that have no center property will be rejected, they have to be recoded
      • Early versions did not store the arc centers and they are needed for arcmoveij()
    • Errant G0 move with no code removed from plungebore in Marlin mode.
      • a bug prevented the correct output of a G0 move
    • Marlin mode streamlined
      • some changes to make Marlin code cleaner
    • Solve failure to find profile path on Mac due to iOS changing version string
      • The code was checking the iOS version to figure out where the files are, but that changed so it failed to find the files.
    • Update translation file {- still need to add a lot of strings though
      • The translation file is woefully out of date, but now has some new strings.
    • Pocketing - new method for complicated faces
      • Pocketing complicated shapes just got a whole lot easier!
    • laser mode holes
      • GRBL 1.1 in laser mode will not make a simple spot without motion, so we now draw a small circle.
      • for large holes > bit_diameter, always draw a circle of the given diameter
      • Change options at Hole Feature Options
    • GRBL 1.1 laser power control mode
    • Here is a brief intro video for this version
    Version 1.4d (Jan 2017)
    • Help updates
      • added MAC help section
    • arcmoveij() is INCREMENTAL mode.
      • the 'incremental' form of IJ is used so make sure you set your controller to incremental mode by issuing G91.1
      • Setting or un-setting this does not change the actual Gcode, arcs are ALWAYS incremental mode, this setting just tells the controller what to expect.
      • you can add this code to the G-code via the Options menu
      • an option to output G91.1 as part of the Gcode header has been added to the Feature Options menu.
      • GPLOT will NOT like this option and will not display the plot. You should rather set your controller to default to this mode.
    • Solve failure to find profile path on Mac (for real this time)
      • Sketchup on MAC still has the old .openpanel bug that prevents the use of wildcards. Mac platform is now detected and wildcards avoided.
      • Note that the file select dialog allows selection of a folder, but the profiles folder will always be used no matter what you select.
    RTFM for details!
After installing this upgrade please restart Sketchup.
You do not need to uninstall previous versions if they are v1.1 or greater.

    A note about version names:
Phlatscript was renamed to SketchUcam after version 0.924 and became SketchUcam 1.0
This version was lost when the forums were hacked and replaced.

The vision is to have this plugin toolset become a versatile Sketchup based CAM solution that caters to
multiple machine types, not just Phlatprinters and 3 axis mills. Hence the name change.

If you are not an Administrator level user on your Windows 7 computer you will need to set 'Modify' permissions on the Sketchup folder.
    For Sketchup Make
    c:\Programs Files\Sketchup
    For Sketchup 7 or 8
    c:\program files\Google\Google Sketchup [7|8]

HOWTO (for Sketchup Make, change paths as above for V7 or V8)
    1. Close Sketchup
    2. Open the 'Programs files' folder
    3. Right click 'Sketchup' (or 'Google Sketchup 7|8' if you have that)
    4. Select 'Properties'
    5. Select 'Security'
    6. Click 'Edit'
    7. Select 'Users'
    8. Put a check next to 'Modify'
    9. Click 'Apply'
    10. Click 'Ok' and repeat till all the dialogs are done
    11. Now install SketchUcam
Reason for this: Sketchup Make claims to honor language resources in the plugins local folder, but in testing it did not. Sketchup 8 makes no such claim and the resources file HAS to be in the Resources folder.
The solution is to put the language file into Sketchup/Resources, but to do this the script needs Modify permissions. Phlatbones saves your diameter setting and will read it next time it starts, so it needs to write a little file for that, and again need Modify permission to do it.

I must be doing something wrong. I installed Sketchup 2013, then the extension, but only phlatbone shows up in the toolbar selections. Nothing for the second toolbar, Sketchucam tools. I installed 2013 because I did not want to make any changes to Sketchup 7 which is working fine. I am running Windows 7. When it did not show up, I tried uninstalling, deleting all traces of files left over in the plugins folder and got same results.

    2 ideas...
1 - after the install, you see the Phlatbones toolbar but not SketchUcam, so you need to enable it in the Toolbar menu.
Click View | Toolbars and then look down the bottom for 'Phlatboyz' which needs to be ticked. Though I have tried to make it visible automatically it doesn't always obey.

2 - MyConstants.rb - did you create one? if you did , and it has any syntax errors, the toolbar will not load. You will need to fix MyConstants.rb first. You can get help on this via the SketchUcam help which you can find on the Tools menu
= Tools|Phlatboyz|Help (with SketchUcam intalled of course).

Note that you don't have to have a MyConstants.rb. If it doesn't exist that is ok. If it does exist, it will be loaded.

I'm having the exact same issue. I installed Make 2013 and then installed SketchUcam as per instructions above. The only thing I see under the Toolbars menu is for Phlatbone. Phalatboyz is not even there for me to click.

    1. It does not appear in the Toolbar... that is the problem in of itself.

This is a new install of Sketchup, so MyConstants.rb does not exist.

When I reopened Sketchup, I get all these errors...
    Error Loading File gplot.rb
    Permission denied - C:/Program Files (x86)/SketchUp/SketchUp 2013/Resources/en-US/PhlatBoyz.strings

aha! you need to have write permissions in those folders, obviously. I've never seen this problem because I am *always * 'administrator' equivalent and I always turn off the stupid 'user account control' in Win7 which also does weird things to your permissions. I don't have a machine here to test this on so you'll have to wait 10 hours or so or just Google for a howto on getting permission on folders in Win7. I only use Win7 at work, Linux here at home, so I'll need to get there to do a full howto on fixing this.

EDIT: see post #3 for details on setting permissions. I had some screen dumps to visualize it, but got a file upload error.

Yep I had to change my permissions to get the toolbar to show up.
Right click on the Sketchup 2013 folder and change the permissions there by clicking on the edit button. Skechucam permissions.JPG

A huge THANKS to Swarfer for sharing his wisdom and time. I haven't downloaded sketchucam yet, but I've seen videos of other people using it. It does look awesome. Im a small time programmer, but have never attempted anything like this. Again Thanks to all who shares.

To install, Follow the instructions in section (1) of the first post in this thread. ie Make or 8 with no previous installation.

Your SK8 appears to be the Google version and so you will have a "program files\\google\\sketchup" folder.
But if you use the instructions to install the package you don't need to know that (-:

Just a suggestion -- it helps a lot for Linux users if instead of the following (with a space in the directory name)
    C:\Program Files\SketchUp\SketchUp 2013\Plugins

    you just eliminate the space:
    C:\Program Files\SketchUp\SketchUp2013\Plugins

or use an underscore or some other character.

I know WINE is able to handle spaced names, but it's still very helpful to eliminate spaces for us, if it's of interest.

    Thanks!

    I agree but.....
*We* are not putting that space in there, the Sketchup installer does it. I hate spaces in filenames and you will not find one anywhere in anything I produce. You may be able to remove the space at Sketchup install time via the custom options, if they're offered by the installer.

Linux itself has handled spaces in names, and names up to 256 characters long, from day one. Windows took 4 or 5 versions to get to the same point (Win95 IIRC) and up to WinXP still sometimes made a mess of copying large trees of folders with long spaced names, to the point where I use the 'xcopy' command in a 2 step process, first one creates all the folders and the second copies the files. I havn't been using Win7 long enough yet to run into this if it is still a problem, I'll probably assume it is and use my usual 2 step process if I cannot use SyncToy for large tree copies.

    Thanks! Sorry for the misunderstanding.

The main time it's a problem for me is when web pages I save for reference offline (like this one) with spaces in title names normally create a "whatever_files" directory for images. If a space is in that name "what ever_files" then the directory can't be found and images are missing from the web page when viewed offline. To fix that (when I forget to rename while saving a page) I have to rename the directory, and sometimes hunt up references to it in the saved page code and change those, too.

From what you just said, does that mean this behavior is a limitation of HTML and/or the browser, not necessarily Linux?

I realize I'm getting a little off topic, apologies, but it does help to understand when saving important reference pages for software, like this one, where there are instructions for installation, etc.

Thanks so much for your replies ---- and for your work on making this latest version of SketchUCam. Much appreciated!

    One more suggestion, apologies again.

I, like several readers above was confused by initial attempts to download SketchUCam. Here's why.

1.) The viewer is greeted with the large banner "DOWNLOAD the all new SketchUCam Today" It fills the screen on many computers.

2.) Mousing over the word DOWNLOAD, the cursor changes and the user assumption is that clicking will initiate a download or take him/her to a download link page. This is a common action on websites.

3.) The screen clears and loads, and then the Banner reappears, filling the whole screen. The viewer thinking that something may be wrong, clicks the word DOWNLOAD again, hoping this may be a separate download link page that simply looks the same, but finally has the real link -- ie a mistake by the web designer.

4.) The same result occurs. Now scrolling down past the screen filling banner, he/she sees what appears to be a set of installation instructions. It is a very long post, many screens long, and rather than read it through, since he/she doesn't yet have the program to install, the user retraces his/her steps trying to find out why the download link doesn't work, or if there is some other location on the website intended to allow a download.

5.) The possibility that antivirus, anti-popup, anti-script or flashblaock browser software may be interfering with the link action occurs, so these are investigated and turned off. Nothing works.

6.) User gives up assuming it's a website problem. Or writes a comment that the down;load link doesn't work.

7.) On your side, you wonder why the heck people miss the attachment in the first post. Especially since you've written twice already in this column exactly where to find the download. Even written it with a big yellow circle with big yellow arrows on it. What is wrong with people these days?

    Suggestions:

1.) Make the first post in the thread show ONLY a link to the program attachment and the words "SketchUCam 1.1 attached below."

2.) Put your installation instructions in the second post.

3.) Reduce the height of your banner so people can see that first post as well as the banner after they jump to the thread.

4.) Delete this post and the others expressing confusion, as well as your answers. :)

    Release 1_1b
    Changes
    • multipass centerline/fold/pocket cuts optimized to remove unneeded Z motion
    • gcode viewer opened after 3D generation if option selected
    • 3D multipass optimized a bit (-:
    • pockettool now uses the same depth settings as centerlines and folds
If you are a beta tester and previously installed a 1_1b file, you do need to re-download and install, this one is different from previous versions. After installing close and reopen Sketchup (except on V7).
