Thanks guys :) we are really happy with the way its working out. Although the big machine is no speed demon it does have a lot of torque!
I have not tried MDF yet but in the photos you can see we have tried Masonite and aspen
I like the aspen the best it makes a nice strong part that is light weight.

I am all new to this, just got here from the crash cast, I have been looking at the possiblility of either Mk1 or Mk2, but I think BB is what's really going to fit my needs, congratulations on great designs, and will be waiting for the launch!

Wow, I have to say this looks just what I am looking for. Have been listening to the Crash cast (slowly going through all the episodes) and have just heard about this. I will be monitoring this thread with great interest.

    Hi Mark,
Any news on the status of the Balsa Buddy? Could the BB be used to machining plugs for vacuum forming canopies, etc.?

Thanks, (trying to be patient) Doane

    Hi Doane,
It will be a true 3 axis machine, so this should not be a problem :)
I can do that right now on the MKII with 2" foam I carve the plug and then fill it with plaster that becomes the mold for the part to be vacuum formed :)
You can see that we did a plug in this show here. The vacuum former needs more work as that was a prototype. After the cam went off we put some of the plastic in the toaster and it worked much better :D
    Show link http://www.phlatforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=180&t=1649&start=0
Its towards the end of the show
    Thank you

    Hi Mark,

Sorry to be a pain, but do you have time frame for the intro of the Balsa Buddy?

Your never a pain, but just so you know we want it as bad as anyone :D We are working very hard to make t happen and I can tell you that Z n Y are done :D This being the heart of the machine is a good sign. There is still beta testing to go but we are getting close to that now.
I wish I could tell you more, but until we get the PhlatCAM up and running this is all we have to go on.
Doane thank for your enthusiasm, this is what drives us. The more we know that you guys excited about this the more we want to get to completion and bring it to you.

    Hi Guys

How is the Balsa Buddy coming along - any idea when it might be available. It looks like it will be a great bit of kit!

    Cheers

Ok I'm really getting into the phlat program and having read the forum on the Balsa Buddy I'm ready to buy. Cutting balsa and soft metals will be a great asset to the model builder. I also do woodworking and this will be a must have tool for the shop.

I hate to be the third guy in a row to ask, but is there any status update on the Balsa Buddy. After reading through the forum, I definetly think this is the one for me and am anxious to get printing.

    Thanks

If I am not mistaken the Balsa Buddy is no longer, the MKIII that they are working on is the replacement machine for both the PP and the Balsa Buddy.

    Hello guys,
Yes the MK3 will be all three machines wrapped in one. It will be capable of preforming all the functions of the Phlatprinters / Balsabuddy and more.
We will be adding pictures and specs soon.
Thank you for your interest. We can't wait to see the full capabilities of this machine!

    pezzer2003,

You can check out a prototype of the MK3 here --> viewtopic.php?f=180&t=2091

This weeks Phlatlab live show was all about the MK3. Very cool stuff.
