I know it was with an airbrush, but there weren't any pre-drawn lines, or templates, or numbers for what color went where, or nothing!

Bohh... I too hate hijackn your thread man, but I saw this bird and wanted to make some changes to it for my own taste and could not resist the temptation to jump in here and make one of my own.

The original PDF file says the wingspan is 56". I want a smaller one so I converted the PDF file to a DXF and then imported into Sketchup and resized it to approx 36" wingspan.

I have not cut it out yet, but here is the file for those who may want to make some alterations.

I have the 56" version as well if needed. When you scale it down, you still have to manually locate any places that need to be the thickness of the FFF and change it. Fortuneately there are not two many places that need to be edited for foam thickness.

Oh by the way, this was setup for 1/16" bit and full 4x8 sheet of FFF. Attached files SouthernEagle.skp (1 MB)Â

Flashsolution, I get missing parts when I try to generate the G-code? Does it work for you?

We apparently have a bug in the phlatscript. When I explode those parts and regenerate gcode I get the same error that Dorsal is getting.

It seems that somehow the cutpaths got grouped separately from the faces which is causing the phlatscript to generate the errors.

I ungrouped the cut paths and got it working again, but there are some other issues that I have discovered that need to be cleaned up.

I will post the update later today.

bohh, i got my bird done today....the auw came out to 14.6oz. as close as i can guess the wing area is 525sq in. looks like the wing loading is around 4.5 a glider loading is arount 10, so the model should soar like a eagle, lols. randy.
    auw minus the rubberbands..

RJ, that bird is fabulous!! I truly admire your airbrush capabilities!

The SU file proved to be a real bugger. Those rounded scallops really give Sketchup Offsets fits.

After much manual editing and finageling, I finally got an SU file configured.

I have not cut anything out with it yet. Will do that later tonight if all goes well. Attached files SouthernEagle.skp (669.4 KB)Â

I cutout my FFF SouthernEagle this evening.

My AMA club is SouthernEagle Squadron, hence the name I gave mine. I am thinking this would make a great mascot for the club.

This smaller version should make a great indoor flyer. The fuse is quite small so I am going to have to look around for an appropriate motor to power it. I'll check with Lazertoyz. They usually have some nice motors for this size.

Now that I see how it goes together, I will probably make mine using 3mm Depron for indoors use. I have some 3mm and 1mm in stock so I may even laminate a 3mm and 1mm to give it a bit more strength.

I like to build a FFF version first before I get serious with a build.

My airbrush skills are not up to par with Randy's though. Man I wish I could paint like that.

ok, fellas. my bird gained a lil fat...i decided that rubber-bands are a pain, and i dont like em....i installed a little ply, carbon rod, and a nylon bolt and fixed the wing rite....the total auw with the wing hold down is 15.2oz. i will snap some photos when i maiden...maybe tomorrow, depending on wind. got a friend that wants to get a high definition video with his new camera. the torque motor i installed will put out 175max watts, it should pull the bird up allrite to gliding heights. btw, eric what ya talkin about hawks being nuts?? randy.

Nice job Randy! Once you get her dialed in she will fly like a dream. I love the way Vtails fly.

I got to maiden my Brotheres Epp Eagle today before he went back to WV. It was a little windy but she flew. Still needs some Tweaking. I'm allmost done with My 20" mini EPP eagle can't wait to try her Inside.

    Cheers
