Hey guyz. We go all out for Memorial day as we have all of our family and friends over for a big BBQ. So, we decided to make this contest a design a Memorial Day decoration contest. We have one that Mark made a few years ago and it's great. We painted it and it looks really cool.

Rulez: Entries must include the Sketchup file and the Phlat Code file. Foam can range from 3mm to 6mm and the bit from 1/16" to 1/8". Upload your entries here: http://www.phlatforum.com/viewforum.php?f=245. The Sketchup files and the Phlat Code files will be made available for public use (not to be resold without designers permission). Contest is void where prohibited.

All entries names will be placed in a Phlatboyz hat and the winner will be randomly drawn LIVE on next week's show.

The prize: The first Phlatboyz micro kit complete with foam cut outs and sticker package.

We can't wait to see your designs. We are hoping to add a few new ones to our decorations for this year's Memorial Day BBQ.

Thanks guyz. Have fun with it!

    Mark and Trish

    Okay, dumb questions time.
Is this decoration intended to sit atop a table (what size table) or is it intended to decorate the entire yard (what size yard)?
OR, Is it intended to be a decoration for your boat?

I guess it would probably be helpful if you posted some pictures of what Mark already designed and painted, to use as a guideline. Maybe if I had seen the live show from tonight, I would already understand, but there are some folks here on dialup who will never see the video and might want to enter the contest anyway. Or maybe I'm the only dummy here.

I'm prolly a dummy too, but I have no clue what sort of decoration he's looking for either. I never seem to catch the live shows and don't always have time to go back and watch anytime soon after they are posted.

As I read the rules I think your looking for ANY type of Memorial day decoration. Something that sits on a table, or hangs from a roof, or a wall, ect... Am I correct?

Also I see the limitations on the thickness of the foam, but what about the size/ sq. inches?

No one is a dummy here on the Phlatforum. They are all valid questions.

There are no specific rulez to the type of decoration. This one is limited only to your imagination ;)

There is no limit to the amount of foam or the size.

I will try to dig out the decoration that Mark made. It's deep in storage right now as we didn't have our Memorial Day BBQ last year so it's been almost 2 years since we have displayed it.

I didn't mention it in the rulez above but entries should be posted by 6:00 pm EST on May 19, 2010.

Very nice Shaun. Very well designed. I had too many doctor visits this past week to think of anything cool to design so it looks like I'll be sitting this one out.

Well, I missed the deadline but I'll try getting mine done during the live show so I can at least post it.

Ok, I got it done before the Live show started, I didn't know what size 3mm foam sheets are so I did not generate the phlatcode, but I did put the phlatlines in the sketchup file for a 1/16th bit. So the parts need to be rearanged to fit on whatever sheet you are going to use.

    Assembly instructions:
Paint / Color the top part blue.
Paint /Color the bottom half of the body of the hat blue.
Paint / Colour the top half of the body Red.

Curl the body around the top joining them together and butt join the seam on the body (may need to use a small piece of paper to hold the seam together. Then curl the brim of the hat lengthwize and attach it to the body of the hat (again some small paper strips might be needed to hold it, depending on glue used).

Glue white tissue paper inside the hat to fill in all the openings.

    Done, enjoy!

    Gefahren,

Unfortunately, we did not have our Memorial Day BBQ this year. It was just too much as we had Mark's parents 50th Wedding Anniversary Party the weekend before. We had family stay with us until Tuesday and just couldn't pull it off. So, looks like we will have to wait until next year to see the finished products.

    Thanks again,

    Mark and Trish

I understand about having too much going on. My wife has made an artform out of overscheduling stuff. Well, maybe before next year i can actually cut out one of the hats and see if it really fits a human head.
