Man, that is sweet. So how did you resolve the PWM issues? Can you control digitally the PPI and power control? Please, share your tricks and workflow as this would be an awesome mod for others. Would love to know more about the setup and wiring configuration as well.

I'm thinking it would be possible to make a hood replacement on the MK2 that would have a vertical mounted Y gantry pointing the laser down into the dust collector. With a vacuum venting out the under/back side of the MK2 stand to pull the smoke out and reduce fire hazards.

So awesome, but please share more!

T-T, I was thinking along the same lines!!! Possibly develop a “power takeoff” from the existing Y drive system and use it to drive a top-down Y axis in the hood. It doesn’t seem like it would be too hard to do.

T-T , output beam on my laser is controlled by 15-20KHz PWM (I assume most of Synrad lasers are controlled like that) is very simple ,design by me electronic board, based on Microchip PIC controller , but this is small part .....to fire up RF CO2 Laser you need (30V-40v)DC Power supply plus 27MHz RF Amplifier.
The most important tings about lasers...they are cool but very, very DANGEROUS , and I'm definitely not the person to give instruction or put any kind of "how to" in this forum .
    Please read this http://www.repairfaq.org/sam/laserco2.htm#co2toc

With or without this mode Phlatprinter is an excellent machine .....Thank you Mark and Trish

Thanks for the info Alex. I have a fair bit of experience operating a 25w commercial system and really would love to have that capability in my garage. Beam width and pulse frequency was always a challenge to find the sweet spot for the different materials.

    Really appreciate the info!

    Alex,

I want to thank you for sharing information about your laser mod on your Phlatprinter.

I fully understand and appreciate your position about providing advice on how to build this device. The info you’ve provided so far points us in the right direction, at the least, and your success proves the feasibility of such a mod.

    Thank you again for sharing.
