    Good stuff man!
Magnets are so much better than pins. I'm gonna have to start building balsa planes again...

Heres a few micro (not UM) sized common parts I've been working with in my plans. They are for part fits, not aesthetics so they're short on details. Hopefully this will be helpful to some.

    Thanks Kram and Thunder Hawk!

Soon as I finish tweaking this design, I plan to release it for Phlatclub "vip" only, if M/T will set it up. I don't want it out in the full wild but I'd like to make it available exclusively for the Phlatheads for free.

The prototype flew absolutely great and exceeded my expectations by far. But there were a multitude of changes I wanted to make and it really needs to be lighter. Hovers, harriers and lots of great snap character. A bit pattern/3d hybrid. It flew like a bigger plane, not twitchy or too fast like the commercial UM designs out there.

The HK 10gr motor is great but it peaks at about 120gr thrust. The proto came out to just around 90 with battery. This one should hit no more than 80gr. Pull pull is a little harder to build for but it is shaving some weight off. My next one I plan to do away with the carbon spar and see how well I can get it to stay stiff in the air.

Thanks for the interest and support!

Toxic, That pocketing is awsome, really nice work!

I'm working on a couple of indoor competition models at the moment which have a similar amount of pocketing. Could you post a quick description of your workflow for generating the pocket toolpaths please? I'm using a combination of Kwok's pocket plugin and the toolpath generation from HeeksCNC at the moment. Both these methods require a fair bit of tidying up to get nice results, i'd like to hear how you approach these type of designs.

    Si.

I'll be honest with you, Si, I have a 3rd party tool I use to generate all pocket paths. I still do all the work in SKUP/Adobe Illustrator, save the pocketing shapes as dxfs and then use Enroute to generate the paths. This gets saved out as a dxf and then re-imported back into sketchup. I then use all the phlat tools to code the paths using the center line tool. No cleanup other than aligning the re-imported parts back on to the right parts of the model. Its actually pretty fast, and I can go from skup->enroute->skup in a few minutes.

I've mentioned it to John and others, if you need paths, send me your skup files. I don't need your whole model, only the parts you need pockets for and info on what bit size. PM me for details.

ToxicToast, did you try the pocket tool in SU and it didn't work for you?

No it worked, but like firetrappe, I had to do a lot of clean up work and if I remember right, it choked on complex shapes like my logo work. The way I do it is one step close to painless. The enroute tools are very mature in this regard as it is designed around cnc signage and woodworking. Thats all.

Thanks Toxic. I appreciate the info. There aren't that many apps out there that allow toolpaths to be exported as DXF's. That's why i've been generating paths in HeeksCNC and then using a Gcode to DXF converter to get the paths back into SU. I'll drop you a PM and discuss rather than taking your thread too much off topic.

    Si.

No probs, Si! Its a meandering thread by design and I'm fine with that! Yes, PM me if you need some quick pathing. I suspect I can turn it around the same day if everything goes smooth!

Final wave of these (until I can get some video).

80gr all up weight with new Hyperions 150 2S. Flew great, despite outdoors in 4-6mph winds. Looking forward to those no-wind evenings we get frequently. Nice and slow, I suspect the drag plates are helping a bit as it had a noticeably more pattern like flight over the prototype. Had to dial the controls down just a bit on the low rates. Hover was sustainable but punch out is weak (~120gr thrust). Need to play with the prop choice a bit. Required virtually no trim to fly nicely. This plane is definitely a keeper!

Pull pull system is fairly unique (I think), saves a fair bit of weight over the rod version and was surprisingly easier to build at this scale than I had thought it would be. A single length of kevlar thread controls each surface and is tacked to the horns with UHU-POR. The thread runs from carbon leads at the servo to the horn and then through a pin hole in the foam. Tiny pieces of tape help it stick to the foam horns. It then runs back to the other side of the servo. This was easy to set up and the controls felt very crisp on the flight.

I like the way you did your pull pull system, horns, and servo arms. I might borrow those .

That plane is gonna be awesome with no wind for sure.

OK, one more for the road. Added a custom drawn canopy decal for the smooth side.

Thanks to the Phlatboys for suggestions on a great way to make decals-Avery 18665! Attached files [IMG]
