Just completed a kit from Stevensaero.com. Laser cut balsa and lite ply with all the hardware to be up and running in no time.

I really prefer our CNC cuts over laser. The laser burns the wood and makes a mess of it.

I ordered the kit Monday and it arrived Wednesday. One piece of wood containing the rudder was warped and they are sending me a new one, but I wet the rudder and placed it in a vice between two flat pieces and it soon was back in shape.

I opted to cover the boat in Oracal 651 after first sealing the wood with a mixture of Durhams water putty and spackling and then 3 coats of Deft lacquer.

Before putting it together, I decided to try my hand at making the model in Sketchup. It took more time to model it than it did to build it.

Lettering was cut on a CraftROBO vinyl cutter.

A few of us from the boat club are building these to race.

Should be fun! Attached files [IMG] [IMG] [IMG]
