I can get the driver board, software and servos for £100

    advantages:
-serial port (thus can run in a virtual machine under Ubuntu)
    -supports servos and steppers

    disavandtages:
-not compatible with mach3 or emc2 (big minus for me as I am pushing toward everything opensource)

    should I go for it?

    Hello JBourdon,
There are guys out there trying to use deskCNC with Mach3 but it seems to be a hassle you can read some about it here http://www.cnczone.com/forums/archive/i ... 16096.html

The price seems right but that is a tough call, on the other hand if you are able to get it working with Mach3 or EMC2 All your efforts would help others here that take the same path, so it would broaden the spectrum of using the PP through other sources.
Still tough call, I would really look around and read as much as you can where others have tried the same thing.
I just did a quick google search for 'Using deskCAm with Mach3' and grabbed the first article I could find.
Hope this helps you out some.
